.........You people should get a life. :nono:
I would reply here, but you have banned me from this thread. Personally, I don't care. The only other possible guy that Switzerland has just had foot surgery. So, why not Wodge?

Ideal draw for Fed in Wimby.

1, He should fall in Med's half and not Nole's half.
2. He should fall in Thiem's Quarter.
3. He should draw PCB in R4.
4. He should draw Khachanov or Fritz (who is coming from knee surgery) in R3
5. He can draw anyone other than dangerous floater in R2
6. He should draw one of those British #2567 not named Murray that got wild card in R1

.............. and finally Novak should fall to a big server along the way.

There is a silver lining if Dominic (4) withdraws due to his right wrist injury which is a near certainty,Roger will move up the rankings.

Federer today to a journalist

" I never thought I was going to have the career that I did. When I beat Pete Sampras in 2001,I started to realize my career could be special"

Well my husband a huge Pete Sampras fan,has never forgiven you for beating Pete at Wimbledon in 2001.

Moving up from #7 to #6 in seeding does not give any advantage draw wise.

I would rather Thiem stay and Roger fall in Thiem's quarter, thus making it his quarter.

You're still "ass u m(e) ing" he'll make it that far! IMO, a qualifier might upset Fed early! That's not t/b a jerk about it! Just remembering FAA loss!

Peter Bodo speculates that Fed's retirement is imminent.

p.s. IIRC. Pete asked Fed at the end of 2008 (sometime after USO and before WTF) in a presser "Roger, is this the beginning of the end?".
It'll be sad if all his effort with the surgeries and rehab ends up being a measly few matches and tournaments. I was quite impressed with his level of play in Doha in patches and the French Open. I'd hope he'd have the sense to give it some more time and play next year as well but time will tell. When he talks of the comeback, what's a comeback, 3-4 tournaments?! Would hope it's more than that.

If Roger wins Wimbledon (I know the chances are very small), there is indeed a possibility of him announcing retirement immediately (as a way of going out on top) or at least announcing when he will retire (may be by end of this year or in Basel in 2022). However, Roger has explicitly said in previous interviews that he is against the idea of a fairwell tour (where he announces the retirement about an year before and simply going to various tournaments getting final adulations).
Roger has also said in previous interview that he is in favor of the idea of phased retirement where he gradually reduces his tennis participation as opposed to suddenly hanging up the racquet one day (which he has already done to an extent starting from 2017).

However, I don't see him retiring soon if he does not win Wimbledon. He will give it a try (whether or not he succeeds) for at least one more year. As you say one does not go through two surgeries and so much rehab just to give up so soon (unless it is obvious to him that his body simply won't cooperate).

He is able to physically hold up based on French open matches. The main issue is the lack of match practice and second guessing of his body due to surgery.

Another issue is that they say rankings return to normalcy starting from Cincy. If that is true, Roger will be unseeded from USO onwards for at least one year making it even more difficult to smell a GS trophy.

That should forever be labeled "doing a Michael Chang".

Fed has not won the first two rounds yet. But, looking ahead, the third round is very worrisome. He could potentially face Cameron Norrie, the finalist at Queens. It is worrisome due to the following reasons.

  1. They have never played each other before.
  2. Norrie is left handed.
  3. He will have reasonable crowd support being a local.

When Fed recently lost to Andujar in Geneva, we had the combination of 1 and 2. A bad omen combination.

Also, the site Universal Tennis Insights predicts that if this match were to actually materialize, Fed will have 41% chance to win it and Norrie will have 59% chance to win it.

Fed gave pre-tournament press conference today. Here are the salient points.

1. He says his first goal is to get to the second week of Wimbledon.
2. He says he is generally inclined to play in Olympics.
3. He says whether or not he will actually play in Olympics depends on how he performs in Wimbledon.
4. He says if he plays very bad or very good in Wimbledon, he would have to completely rethink his entire summer schedule.

I don't think Fed will announce his retirement at this time. Going by his pretournament interview, he would assess himself as having played neither too bad nor too good and would give himself another year to tread on, considering he did not have much match practice this year.

Needless to say, he has no chance of winning RG or USO anymore.

There is still some minor hope of winning AO or Wimbledon just once more.

But, if at all he wins, it will be limited to one more and it will be due to lot of stars aligning.

In live rankings, currently Fed dropped to #9. There is also the (minor) possibility that one of Shapo or HH can surpass Fed if they win Wimbledon outright. Even if that happens, Fed will fall only to #10. With both Ralph and Thiem not going to Olympics, this would still ensure a top 8 seeding for Fed in Olympics, assuming he is going there.

Shameful! It's like the older they get, the more conniving it takes to save their spot for as long as possible! Hasn't Federer been to enough Olympics when he had a chance? Why give him a red carpet exit in Tokyo? Switzerland that short of top players? :face-with-tears-of-joy:
