I was happy that Mahes Bhupathi's IPTL folded and all players will focus on official events. But Roger plans to play a series of exhibition matches in South America at the end of season this year. He plans to play in Chile, Argentina, Columbia and Mexico. It is hard to blame him when people pay him a million bucks for one match. Anyway, this probably means we can forget about him winning AO'20.

This is what PO's me the most about today's top players! They kvetch about the season being too long, but they play some kind of team tennis along with exhibitions! I got nothing for them; esp. Roger who doesn't need the money! Nadal isn't much better having fun in these things, but when an official event comes around we muse about injury and exhaustion! A-Holes! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

Don't you think this is much more about him taking his victory laps and reaching out to fans where he doesn't often/never has played, rather than stashing a bit more cash? Not saying he's going to retire in 2020, but it IS an Olympic year. And his clay season this year had a lot of the feel of "this is the last time you'll see him here." Certainly Rome did. And if I were to be a bit cynical, he may be going to places like Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico to reinforce the brand, for after he retires. Or, at the very least, to give those folks a look at the Maestro before he retires. I think it's about the fans, for him...certainly not the dosh. Not sure it will mess with his AO '20. Maybe he wants to take his family there, too.

I'm watching Hewitt's domination swansong against Federer in DC 2003 for the first time -- and for those of you who haven't seen it or forgot it -- you won't believe what the co-commentator said looking at the second set summary and realizing that Federer won 100% points when his 1st serve went in. There ya go:

Well he dominated 1 set (the last one) so you got that right at least.

So, the question is, do you think Roger has successfully moved on after that devastating Wimbledon loss? How do you think he would do if he faced Novak in Cincinnati?

I doubt he's fully moved on because chances are he is going to struggle closing out matches for the foreseeable future. Roger playing any kind of decent tennis would win Cincy vs anyone. But he has won Cincy 5 times since 2009 and hasn't had a quality USO in that time period. So Cincy hasn't mattered, it is a lot faster.

Sure, he has a great record in Cincinnati, but last year Novak finally beat him there too. Novak is in his head, having won 9 of their last 11 encounters. Roger hasn’t beaten him since 2015. I’m hoping his anger and frustration over losing that Wimbledon final will propel him to beat Novak if they meet this week.

Last year Cincy doesn't matter at all, Roger's game was in the dumpster after AO. Fed hasn't been good at Wimbledon for awhile, problem is he has been even worse in NYC. No reason to think he'd beat Djokovic there. Cincy just depends on if Fed shows up good.

Sure, Novak is in Roger's head. But, the interesting thing is that Novak is only in Roger's head. Roger actually has the game to beat Novak even now.

I think Roger will beat Novak if they happened to face each other in Cincy. But, if they meet in USO, I cannot say for sure and anything can happen.

At this point, I don’t see Roger beating him in New York. Cincinnati? Yes, he could beat him there.

He has the game to beat him on anything fast like Cincy, Dubai and maybe Wimbledon (which isn't really fast anymore). I don't think Roger has the game to beat any decent version of Novak on a slow/medium HC.

Roger lost in New York last year mainly because the conditions were so dreadful. I wonder if the USTA has addressed how poor the air circulation is in Ashe Stadium. Many players thought it was awful, not just Roger.

I was buried under work the last 2 USO's, and so missed all but the broad strokes. So the player's are talking about the now-dead air in Ashe? Presumably the wind issue is now gone, which used to be swirly and crazy. I've only been twice since they added the roof, (both times with it open,) but the lack of any breeze was a notable difference. It has always been a frying pan, sitting there, but it now seems hot and airless.

Notice how he looks at about 54 seconds into it, and note the score: 2-0.
