Federer talks about the reasons why he switched to Uniqlo...

Nobody really ever says it was the best cash deal on offer...

I think he was given 300 million reasons to leave Nike ;)

**BREAKING** Identity of @DarthFed revealed!

I wandered into a bookstore today and happened upon a slim volume: "Federer and Me: A Story of Obsession." I immediately thought of Darth, but when I opened it up to the chapter entitled, "The Curse of Nadal," which starts right in on how much he hates the man, I was convinced. Darth must be William Skidelsky! :lulz2:

That was really fun. I won't spoil who won the ping-pong, but interesting to note that, while we know that Rafa takes his energy from regenerating at the sea, Roger reinvigorates in the mountains and the snow. Always polar opposites.

It was a good read. I don't know if I'd say it was so much insightful of the Federer fan mentality, having spent all these years on the forums, as much as a deep dive into it. He holds all the same grudges, and has all of the same obsessions, though he doesn't address surface changes. He does a creditable job of putting some of these obsessions into context. And he seems to explain how the beauty of the Federer game creates the arrogance and resentment that it does in Federer fans. How dare anyone beat him? When he is both a throwback to the old game, and a completely modern version of it? From there we get the simplistic notion of: "Saving the world from Nadal." I recommend it for Federer fans, though there will be rather too much of the 2008 Wimbledon for your tastes. And for the record, he concedes it was a great match.

For the rest of us, it's an interesting contemplation of tennis fandom, though, since it's compared to "Fever Pitch," I'd say that's a better book on the general topic.

As usual the rules don't pertain to the stars no matter how magnanimous or unassuming they love to portray themselves! :nono:

Well he's not winning it at nearly 39 years old so I wouldn't really make too much of it.

Fed will play Milkman in 2R at Basel assuming both win their 1st round matches. Recall that Milkman ousted Fed in 4R at USO.

I'm not sure but I recall reading what Roger said apparently in Shanghai, that he will decide about Paris depending "how well" he does in Basel. Which, translated to common language of reasonable planning (that he's good at), means he will play if he loses earlier in Basel (say to Millman) and feels more bored than tired; but will most likely skip Paris if say he wins or at least makes the final in Basel. Points might be some consideration in his mind but I think a distant one in his current situation.

I think I remember something like that; it all depended on how well or poorly he did in Shanghai! It's still up in the air more than likely!

Federer's done sort of poorly in 2018. So, I'd would suggest he played Paris. A win there would properly make up for some of it.

One Masters 1000 win isn't going to salvage Roger's season! He's fortunate to have AO title and's been really off since then! No one should've been surprised by his USO bust! :yesyes:

Forget the USO bust. He is 0/4 in the four Masters he played. He skipped 4 Masters and so really 0/8.

Fed said he injured his hand in the grass season -

rene stauffer
‏@staffsky

⁦@rogerfederer⁩ told me he hurt his right hand in the beginning of the grass-court-season in practice, „it affected my forehand around three months“. #SwissIndoors

He's still on the Paris draw for people who asked if he's playing that Masters 1000 event! It might change if he does well in Basel and wins! It's not like he had any real chance of taking another M1000 while Nadal and Djokovic were playing! :nono: :banghead:  :ptennis:

Thought he only lost one match against them this year....
