Here's a pretty impressive Fed Feat:

From 2003 to 2018 Roger Federer has reached at leaset #2 at some point during the year. So that's 16 years in a row of seeing either #1 or #2.

Rafa only reached #3 in 2015 and #4 in 2016, so doesn't have the same kind of streak. Not sure about NOvak, but I think he's reached #2 or better in every year since maybe 2009 so has some years to go to catch Roger.

SO WHAT? Is this supposed to excuse Fed's fall from grace all year? He got to #1 and he'll be lucky to remain in the top 4 as of now! :cuckoo:

Well, some of us find such things interesting. Not everything has to be part of the endless partisan battles among fans of the top players. Some of us enjoy actual discussion of tennis history and records.

Who you tellin'? I do exactly that, but don't go off on tangents that make no sense! Let's stay on topic and not jump off onto another! :banghead:

The topic of this thread is Roger Federer. Presumably anything Roger Federer related is not a tangent.

Not to be argumentative, but I was talking about this season's end and what Fed was going to do thru the YEC! You decided to hark back to records to deflect how he's been losing it since winning his AO earlier this year! Maybe I'm crazy! I'll let it go! Have fun! :nono: :banghead: :cuckoo:

Fiero, I wasn't "deflecting" anything - that is total conjecture on your part. I was just looking at Roger's wikipedia page and noticed a new little chart that showed high and low rankings by year and found it impressive and interesting that he's reached at least #2 in each of the last 16 years. I thought others would also find that interesting so posted it here.

But yeah, Roger is struggling and maybe (finally) "aging" out. That said, the hand injury has me hopeful that he can rebound a bit and have a stronger 2019.

Players fall from grace all the time, what is it with you being fussy about Fed in particular? You’ve been wishing that he drops dead, he owes your money or what?

Come on. Cut him some slack. He's 37. He's not lucky but insanely gifted to remain even in the top 4 right now. Get it? Do you think your bloke Djokovic will remain in the top 4 when he's 37? That's when the next gen will be close to 25. Rublev/Coric/Zverev/Shapovalov will hit peak. Try not to 'like' my post. Because, we'll settle this 5 years down the line. Yup.

Your Fed hate has grown this year quite a bit. What's up with that? Anyways he is definitely finishing top 4 because DP is out for the year. Is he supposed to finish #1 at 37 years old??

It's not hate; more boredom with him and people talking about how great he is! Everything he does is magical to some! Talented? Probably one of the best, but he's not GAWD! I'm just done worshiping at his temple; just ready to move on! I went thru the same thing with both Martinas; it doesn't last forever out there! :nono:  :p

Probably ONE of the most talented? Come on man, you're embarrassing yourself today :banghead:

I can say the same about you! I've been watching tennis on TV and in person for well over 40 years! All the talent wasn't reserved for Fed in the future; believe me! There were some true artist on the court who didn't have the advantage of homogenized courts, the new tech in rackets and nutrition, Tie-Breakers, and electronic line calling! Unless you're older than me and can still say Fed's the greatest, I wouldn't point fingers about someone embarrassing themselves! :nono: :banghead: :cuckoo:  :ptennis:

Now I have to agree with Fiero here. Saying "one of the most talented" is not an outrageous understatement. (You might have emphasized PROBABLY if you wanted to be contentious.) No one can say for a certainty that Roger is THE most talented player ever to wield a racquet. He's one of them.

I agree with "one of the best," but the "probably" is the ridiculous part. He is undoubtedly one of the best ever. There is no question about that, just as there is no question that Rafa and Novak are also both two of the best ever.

He's been helped by rules and tournament changes; best of 3 instead of BO5 which keeps players in the game longer! Fed would be gone if all the Masters 1000 events were still best of 5; definitely wouldn't have won as many! :nono:    :ptennis:

As I pointed out. But no one deserves to be skewered over a word choice as "embarrassing" themselves. Darth is being fannish, and Fiero is Fiero.

We can do that with every player, in every part of history: find one way or another to diminish their accomplishments. But in the end, what's the point?

I don't agree with this at all. Fed isn't the king of MS1000s...Nadal is and Djokovic is fighting him for it. He's the king of Majors, and those are BO5. I think your post is misleading. How would Federer's career been less interesting and imposing if MS had kept the finals to BO5?

You're less likely to win back to back Masters if worn out playing 4 or 5 sets; esp. on clay! All players would have fewer wins if BO5!
