Rafa and team just got out executed and foxed by Roger and Luby. Since the spring Rafa and team have put in the proper counters regardless of the surface to counter Roger's juiced up backhand, early strike tennis and shorten back swing for the return of service. Rafa lacked Confidence (how to win a Grand Slam championship) in that match vs Roger.

Roger has been designated as the favorite before vs Novak on the grass and we know the results.

Roger was not considered the favorite in 2014 and probably not in 2015 either. He'd be the heavy favorite in any Wimbledon meeting this year.

Nadal's "counter" was playing on clay where his game is still extremely lethal. I think you know he can't get in a match of quick strike tennis vs. Roger if he wants to win. That was never the winning formula.

Nah,,regardless that its clay, Rafa is playing more aggressively and will need this style of play plus the ability to hit his spots w its his serve. This was enough before to overtake Roger when they both was younger and will-work again.

I am surprised that you seem to like Novak again, now that Wimbledon is upon us..
Novak has been a bad match up for Roger especially the past 5 years since Roger has been on the decline winning grand slam titles.

Roger never had this backhand for any of his pre 2017 losses to Nadal so things are a lot different now. If by some miracle they end up playing each other here, this will be fugly. Really fugly.

The juiced backhand isnt as effective when Roger isnt able to hit it early. If Roger has to strike the ball above his shoulder, his returns will drop a lot shorter..

You folks are talking like Fedal #38 is foregone conclusion. It could very well be Zverios #3.

Wouldn't that be a hoot?

How many balls do you expect to bounce above shoulder height on this slow as crap grass ? I can't think of many apart from serves from the likes of Karlovic, Raonic, Isner, Opelka or other huge, lanky mongos firing down bombs personally. Rally shots sure as hell don't bounce that high so Roger will be perfectly poised to rip backhand winners at will.

He's allowed to play more aggressive on clay because he has all day to track down and hit his shots. And his normal rally forehand is deadly on clay.

Roger's weaker backhand, weak return, and poor play in the clutch was what allowed Nadal to win all too many matches even off clay.

And what will cause him to not take it early enough that it doesn't reach shoulder height. For the most part that is a choice.

Haha, I see Darth in action. Just like the good old days.

Novak isn't a pushover. In fact, meeting Roger on grass might be what he needs to kickstart, but then again I said that about meeting Rafa a couple months back.

I do think Roger remains the overall favorite, but it isn't overwhelming. He isn't slaughtering guys, and there are lots of dangerous players out there.

The Novak that was great was a bad matchup for geriatric Fed and everyone else. He isn't the same guy, lucky for the rest of the tour, especially Nadal. Nole at his peak was Zed from Pulp Fiction and Rafa was his gimp. Well Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead, and the gimp is suddenly alive and well.

That's what I see Dude, if Novak can get a match vs Roger, he wouldn't take it lightly and it may get him to produce his best tennis. I think Agassi aka Mr Clean would love to try to architect a strategic plan to beat Roger who unmercifully sent him to retirement.

If they meet it will be late in the tournament, not that much grass left by then, it will be dirt and you know how much the dirt devil love him some dirt.

It ain't just as you say..when Roger drops some ball short, Rafa will be on him like frat boys on a college freshman virgin...When Rafa is coming forward hitting his fh, his balls has been bouncing higher than four months ago plus his net game has been spot on

For sure the later in the tournament it gets the more it plays like clay but it still won't bounce anywhere near above shoulder height from anything Nads throws at him. Also, it's really only the very back of the courts that gets all chewed up and turned to rock hard mud. Rally shots won't be bouncing anywhere near that high and Roger just needs to worry about holding his own serve if they ever meet on grass again and frankly he shouldn't really ever lose serve against Nadal on grass imo.

Seriously, who is the more likely of the two to hit short balls ? I think every avid tennis fan knows the answer to that one.
