It's not like Federer to play a tournament especially a grand slam without such little match play, I truly think that he will withdraw before the beginning of RG and head to the grass

Federer would not be worried about his lack of match play. If he is physically 75% or more, he will surely play RG. He has played 65 slams consecutively (has record for that even including women: Wayne Fereira 56, Ai Sugiyama 62). He is not going to withdraw that easily.

Having said that I would be surprised if he goes any further than QF at RG. He surely is not going to win RG. Even a deep run is highly unlikely. Most probably he will be gone in the 4th round if he draws Monfils or Thiem.

Federer said he is using these matches to gauge where he is at with his game. Why wouldn't he participate in a slam if he is physically able to do so especially with his favorite slam around the corner. Federer himself admits he doesn't expect to go far, and I don't think anyone would expect him to unless everything at RG magically opened up for him.

He played well against Zverev, of course he will play.

I just find it weird that people are questioning Federer playing tournaments. He has to come back from injury sometime, and yes, he probably will need a few tournaments to get his game in check. It doesn't mean he is taking a spot away from someone. Players come back from injury all the time. Why wouldn't he want to play a slam to gauge his game before his favorite slam around the corner? It is smart for him to work his game out on the clay which will make him hit a few extra balls before grass season.

For Anti Pusher is wishful thinking, so Roger makes room for Rafa to be seeded 4:p

AP's not the only one wishing. I do not want another clay quarter between Rafa and Nole. :nono

(I wish they'd use the Wimbledon seeding at RG and give Rafa the #2 spot!)

If Federer listens to your and herios advice , practice on clay and play this grueling tournament with a bad back then so be it. As for Rafa being seeded #5 or #4 , always remember the great line from the fantastic movie "No Country for Old Men" , You Cant Stop What's Coming" . The King of Clay has returned and all he needs is to keep raising his 1st service percentage , and go for a few flat serves and the dtl fh will return..

Federer is probably one of the smartest out there who actually listens to his body if he felt he couldn't play he wouldn't. He isn't like some of the other morons on the ATP or WTA who will play injured and risk further damage. If he feels fine, then he feels fine. I doubt with Wimbledon on the horizon, he will put that in jeopardy. I think he is playing it smart.

I think unless he's really hurting, Roger will play RG and, at worst, withdraw after the first round or two, or more likely simply be beaten sometime in the first week. But I think he wants to keep his GS streak going and needs match time to prepare for Wimbledon.

Nowhere! I'm betting he doesn't even make the final! He's shot his wad as far as I'm concerned; totally zoning the last couple weeks making these finals and winning Roma over Nole! He's probably done until Wimbledon IMO!

Now that the seeds for RG are settled, here are the top 6 dangerous floaters (unseeded players who can act as spoilers)

1. Fog
2. Verdasco
3. Almagro
4. Delbonis
5. Zverev
6. Vesely.

...for an upset or 2 yeah, but not to win FO of course! I like Zverev the most to do so! :dodgy: :p :clap

Honey, you're obviously new here! My words come from GAWD! :ras: I'm almost always right! Been watching, playing, teaching, and prognosticating for well over 40 years! I live it even though very unhappy with the sad state of affairs with the game; the mindless aggression and the Big 4 taking all major titles! :nono  :dodgy: :ras: :cover

Suddenly, RG'16 became even more interesting. The three clay Masters are won by three different players. Also, surprisingly Andy has more clay points than Nole or Rafa going into RG.

Andy: W, F and SF. (1960 points).

Nole: W, F and 2R. (1610 points).

Rafa: W, SF and QF. (1540 points).

If you add the 500 of Barcelona, Rafa will vault to #1, but that is not fair considering the other two did not play there.
