Suddenly, RG'16 became even more interesting. The three clay Masters are won by three different players. Also, surprisingly Andy has more clay points than Nole or Rafa going into RG.

Andy: W, F and SF. (1960 points).

Nole: W, F and 2R. (1610 points).

Rafa: W, SF and QF. (1540 points).

If you add the 500 of Barcelona, Rafa will vault to #1, but that is not fair considering the other two did not play there.

As I said, Nole hasn't necessarily been playing that well and "he doesn't really need" the work or points; doubling all other players on the ATP rankings! :dodgy: :p

Agreed that Nole does not need points with his huge lead. But, it is traditional to use the clay points gained as a barometer to gauge RG contenders.

So, the blueprint for Novak's failure at RG is ready. Last year, he played Rafa in QF and then had to fend off a tough Andy over a course of 2 days and then succumbed to Red Hot Stan. In Rome, after playing tough matches against Belluci, Rafa and Kei, finally he succumbed to Andy. So, while no single player can get rid of Novak all by himself, they can pummel Novak steadily and thus prepare for his eventual demise.
Now, here is a request for the draw gods. Let Novak get the following draw (and in the later rounds
let him play consecutively for four days due to bad weather).

1st Round: Belluci
2nd Round: Zverev
3rd Round: Kohlschrbrier
4th Round: Thiem
QF: Rafa
SF: (hot) Stan
F: Andy

Here are some notable names in the draw: Players who have created problems for big names in the past such as Stakhovsky, Darcis, Falla, Dustin Brown, Berrer and Daniel Brands are there. Also Stepanek is there. Youngsters such as A. Rublev, F. Tiafoe are there. Swiss's Chudinelli and GBR's J. Ward are there.

Stakhovsky took out Fed in Wimbledon. Falla extended Fed in Wimbledon. Darcis and Brown beat Nadal at Wimbledon. Daniel Brands extended Rafa at RG. Berrer eliminated Rafa from Doha last year. It looks like there is a vast right wing conspiracy that demotes you to qualifying tourneys if you give trouble to big guys. :lolz:

I well knew all about it, just being malicious when it comes to the Rafa sycophants! People probably don't even remember Brand took Rafa to the limit in the first round of the French Open 3 years ago! He was slashing winners from the baseline and it was only his "head" that kept him from finishing Nadal off up a set and a lead in the 2nd set TB! This German kid pretty much disappeared after dropping that match! :cover :nono

For the first time, TCC will actually be showing the qualifying rounds of the French Open! This must truly be a landmark major for all concerned to go that far; Nole trying to win his 1st, Roger probably playing the event for the last time, and the resurgence of Nadal who's playing fairly well for a guy on aging wheels! :nono :cover

I'd like to know why Roger wants to play (talking about aging wheels) in RG or maybe he would decide to withdraw in the last moment........ :cover :(

While Roger won't win at RG, if he is physically fit he can, should and will play at RG. The reason is not the longevity record of consecutive GS appearances. He already has that record. Even though his best chances are on grass, he needs to get in form by getting actual match practice. Playing long clay matches will bring out the rhythm in ground strokes.

If you think those who don't have chance of winning should not play, then about 100 people or more should quit right now. :nono

Wrong, I'm not thinking and talking about those who don't have chance of winning should not play but I'm talking about he doesn't look fitted and healed (according to him)
If someone is thinking that after a knee surgery all the problem is gone after 4 months he/she doesn't have any idea about it

Only Roger knows his body, he will play if he is up to it, and he should play to get the match play. I don't understand why people are giving Roger a hard time about this. You would think that the concept of returning from injury was a foreign concept to some on here. You have to comeback at some point if you are healthy and want to play. Roger knows he isn't going to win here, but hey he can join the other 126 people who aren't going to win it either.

We well know most have no chance, but I was thinking of Roger wearing himself out playing best of 5 sets against these youngster in the early rounds! They aren't just going to roll over for him like in the past! If he's just extending his major participation, he's wasting a space in the draw! :nono  :dodgy:

Lately your anti Federer posts are getting more and more annoying. People never rolled over for him, he was just simply brilliant in his prime. And he's still beating players now at nearly 35 because he's still very good. No one is rolling over for him now and no one was rolling over for him then. He's not just extending his major participation and I doubt any fan of tennis on the whole planet would ever claim Roger Federer is wasting a space in the draw unless maybe you think they'd prefer to see some donkey qualifier than him :s What makes this more annoying is you were actually a fan of Federer before but the slagging he gets from you these days would make anyone wonder if you ever supported him.

Stranger things have happened than 2 of the favourites exhausting each other in slams and opening up the whole draw. We just saw it happen in Rome with Murray, and while Novak is definitely fit enough to withstand a few tough 3 setters, there's also the mental aspect of a few tough matches en route to a final. Let's say Novak beats Rafa and Stan takes out Murray and then has a subpar next match, is Roger then wasting a space in the draw for playing ? No, he's not. Plus, he needs the practice as he's barely played in months.

I see "Doc" Front still thinks that Fed only has a temporary back problem..No No .. Front.. if his back couldn't hold up for two matches in Rome last week in a best of 3 sets, how is Roger gonna get that back to hold up for two weeks in a best of 5 set format against guys that might be 10 years plus his junior.. Even Federer can't defeat Father Time..

Was Nadal injured when Thiem beat him this year? No. I expected a high probability of Federer losing to Thiem as his baseline game is rock solid and he hits the ball extremely hard. Both of those point strongly at him being a tough opponent. Bear in mind he had 14 break points in the last match he played against Novak as well so it was a lot closer than the score indicated.
