Oh come on now....

I guess I shouldn't be surprised you're making this attempt. There's simply no equivalence between a team event and the YEC tournament - a singles event. When discussing the greatness of players their achievements in doubles or team events don't really have much standing otherwise McEnroe would be the greatest of them all. It's so funny how you continuously play these games to elevate Rafa and then protest that those who respond are insecure. I mean, seriously.

With the greatest of respect the YEC/ATP Finals have a near half century pedigree and the list of winners is a veritable hall of greats with the glaring exception of Rafa. That's just a fact. You can try to diminish the event because of that fact but that simply exposes your awareness of that sorry fact
I just went at that because Darth showed his hand on DC. :D

Actually the point is that Roger didn't pull it off by himself just as Nadal has never pulled it off by himself. As soon as Stan stepped up Switzerland won the Davis Cup but it's a team event and thus the comparison to doubles. I don't care how old and prestigious the event is, it's still a team event and penalizing a player due to where they were born is comical.

I think it is you that is insecure if you're seriously arguing a lack of a Davis Cup is a bigger deal than a lack of a YEC. Clearly you care about the latter enough to put forth the annual complaint that it doesn't suddenly. move to indoor clay.
I think you mis-remember how closely Stan came to blowing it. Switzerland finally won because Roger believed he had a partner who could get him over the hump. The pressure nearly got to Stan in the QFs. And the 2nd bit was just to give you s%$t. :lulz2:

Sure, you can always play the "Im joking" card well. I don't even remember the QF's to be honest. Did Stan lose a match? Well that'd be one out of something like 6 or more. Roger believed he had a strong partner because he finally did...

I wasn't "joking." I was giving you some of your own because you were saying Nadal fans make too much of it. You brought the Fedal wars in. And I'm cool to say Roger didn't win it single-handedly. Murray didn't really, either. But they did more of the heavy lifting. It is my memory that, when Roger finally had a solid DC partner, Stan rather threatened to blow his end of the deal a few times. Though, he came through enough, in fairness to him.

Roger and Stan celebrated no doubt but can't say too many of their fans really gave a shit. Speaking for myself, DC means absolutely nothing. Always nice to say you've won something for your country I guess but if you didn't it's because your teammates let you down in most cases so it has little bearing on a tennis player's career unless they only play team events such as doubles.

Hope the DC doesn’t change anything. In my opinion I think to win is a great thing for the players and also for the fans of that country and more when your fav player plays and much more when the matches are also well played. Yesterday Ferru-Kohls was very exiting match which any good Tennis follower likes to watch

They titled a crappy Bond movie after my view on life. And besides I truly am not sure it's safe. Look around at the tour, both Fed and Rafa could keep taking out the trash for awhile yet and if one of them goes lame there's more cake to be devoured.

Wonder if the greatest Davis cup player Nadal will play the semi finals, seems the only way Spain can win.

It way too soon for Rafa to committ to DC with the remaining of 2nd quarter(RG) and 3 quarter( Wimbledon and the USO) on his schedule ..

Yea your right nadal most likely wait until last minute, then decide.
Probably true, though he has said he is making himself available for the rest of this year. Seems to have to do with this being the last year of the old format, where they play at home. But, if he needs to, I'm sure he can change his mind.

That will help him qualify for Olympics 2020.

Interesting side-note on this point: I heard this mentioned last weekend, but that say if Roger doesn't play enough/any DC before the 2020 Olympics, and if he's still playing by then, they said he can still be given an invitation (I think was the word used.)

The thing is that a player does not have to actually play in DC ties to qualify. The player just have to make themselves available for selection. If the Swiss tennis administration claims that Roger indeed made himself available and they just did not select him as they like players ranked outside of top 500 much better, the Olympics committee cannot argue with that. :lulz2:

Obviously, that is funny. But can he actually get an invitation, based on his resume? I should think that would be fair. Not for everyone, but for the likes of Rafa and Roger...you'd think they'd have them, anyway.
