So I guess you're rooting for Spain to win, then. :p I think this one was a good one for him to play, though. After a lay-off, on clay, at home, and 2 wins in straights. Nice way to go into MC and the clay season. But that's enough DC for the year, now.

I'm fine with Spain winning and you know I don't care at all about DC. It's overrated, but anything that may lead to Nadal overplaying is cool with me

I'm really shocked! I thought Spain was quite vulnerable; even with Nadal! The Spanish Armada isn't what it used to be and kicking Ferrer out there seems to me as if "red flags" should be waving! Where's their "next gen?" France in the same predicament with aging stars and successors not ready for prime time even though Pouille did his job this weekend! He still makes things harder for himself by going 4 and 5 sets unnecessarily! :nono:  :cuckoo:

The next DC tie is only after USO. So, there is no danger of Rafa hurting his slam chances for this year even if he plays in the next one. Rafa indeed made a good decision to play in this tie ahead of MC.

Sadly..dude you have a 20 grand slam winner as your champion ...quit being so stingy and greedy

It might not be safe if Roger goes lame now. This tour is beyond weak right now, ripe for both of them to keep scooping up slams. Hopefully Roger sees it the same way. 23 slams would be nice

Here's another old DC outcome I don't understand.
Looking at the DC scores:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/scores/current/davis-cup-quarter-finals/8097/live-scores
I don't understand the reason for USA 4, BELGIUM 0
I thought a given DC tie was "best of 5 matches", just like each match in it, (or in GS) is best of 5 sets.
But no, the USA-Belgium featured a forth, superfluous, pointless match. Further, the score of that match says it was best of 3, rather than best of 5. What's the point of that match and wy was it best of 3? If they did play it for whatever whacky reason (maybe they did not want to give money back to the advance ticket holders), why didn't they go ahead and played the fifth scheduled match?

That's why I'm glad he's playing this. The bad news from a hater's perspective (mine) is that he looks like he's fine. But realistically even at 50% he's winning RG this year and probably next. I won't predict two years out as a lot can change and there are at least signs that some of the young players will soon become legit.
And here I thinking you hated nadal but deep down, I think you love him.

Oh yea I said this was going to happen, Rafael nadal wins both he's matches in straight sets the king is back. And best of all Nadal still pretty fresh for Monte carlo, Ferrer was great as well.

It has been long in the DC rules that dead "rubber" (as they call the matches in a tie) are played as best of three. It is also at the captain's discretion to play or not each of those matches, so in general you will see players either young or needing match practice appearing in those matches.
