Nadal looked really good in this tie, about 90% of his best, also Nadal has not lost a Davis cup since 2004 to Novak, he most likely wins the next match as well.

Thanks mrzz...maybe I can watch some highlights later. Davis Cup site says that this win gives Nadal the record with 23 consecutive wins in DC (singles and doubles.) Also, Spain hasn't been beaten at home since Brazil did it in 1999.

Kuerten did that almost single handedly

To be clear, that loss was to Jiri Novak of CZE. It was his first DC tie, and only singles loss.

Rafa didn't play his best yesterday, he made 8 double faults and 47 errors but having been his first match after his injury it wasn't so bad at all, he moved very well and according to his words he feels physically very well too which is the most important .

Although Russia-Austria was not a QF match in the 2018 edition, is worth mentioning thta Russia played home in Moscow and flopped badly defeated by an Austrian team without D. Thiem.
Rublev lost to Novak, Donskoy lost to J. Melzer, who these days is ranked outside of the top 500, and the doubles Rublev/ Khachanov lost to J.Melzer/ P. Oswald .
Medvedev was also on the team, he had the only win for Russia over Ofner.

I want to see Rafa win and looking in fine shape v. Zverev. After that, I'll be fine if Spain loses. Less temptation for Rafa to play again.

Its unlikely Spain will lose seeing as even now Ferrer still really good on clay, and most likely beats that other German, and of course nadal going to win.

Nadal dusts Sascha in straights. Sets up the live rubber for Ferrer/Kohls which will be tough. Kohls is still very good player who chokes most of the time when placed in a winning position.

Sub-par showing from Nadal but it is still enough to win in straights.

I haven't seen the match but I"ve read Rafa seems to be healthy and of course these two matches have been very convenient to him to be better prepared for this next clay season. One more time the large fish eats the small one
Now Ferru has the last word, he is not the same player like two or three years ego but hope he is going to give the third point to Spain, vamos!!!!!!!!!!:pompoms:

That's why I'm glad he's playing this. The bad news from a hater's perspective (mine) is that he looks like he's fine. But realistically even at 50% he's winning RG this year and probably next. I won't predict two years out as a lot can change and there are at least signs that some of the young players will soon become legit.

So I guess you're rooting for Spain to win, then. :p I think this one was a good one for him to play, though. After a lay-off, on clay, at home, and 2 wins in straights. Nice way to go into MC and the clay season. But that's enough DC for the year, now.
