Great win for Murray, not easy to lose a two set lead and recover momentum. Novak struggled but also won, and the Serbs qualify due to a win by the needle-shy (apparently) Tricky Troicki. GB v Serbia. Murray v Novak. This one might come down to the doubles...

That one will end up as tie in which neither Novak nor Andy participates (just like the tie of Spain vs. Switzerland we had several years ago).

Have to laugh at these Aussie brat kids. Tomic is a lad I never had much time for and he's ratcheted down another notch by mouthing off during his match with Isner, complaining about po' Nick who sent in a sick note. Or, "chucked a sickie." :laydownlaughing

Nick's brother hasn't been officially heard from yet, but it's suspected that he's going to challenge Tomic's hater dad to a brawl and like, kill 'im! :devil

A lot of passionating matches as usually in DC, players give the best they can for their country. I enjoyed Murray/Nishi very much

The most dramatic match was Germany vs Czech R.
With the Czechs up 2-1 after the doubles, Berdych was denied by Kohli evening up the match and it was Rosol who clinched the victory in the end, defeating in form young Zverev.

I said it in March and it is happening. Novak has already ruled himself out. Murray has now said that he is unlikely to play as well.

1. Willis is not on team. No, he does not deserve it either. :nono

2. Kyle Edmund and Jamie Ward play singles and Jamie Murray and Inglot play doubles.

3. Even though Andy Murray is not playing, he has travelled to Belgrade to give moral support to the team (I find this stupid move. If you are going all the way there, why not play couple of matches against easy opponents? That can't kill him. If you want to take rest so that you perform well in the Olympics and NA hard court season, why add to fatigue with unnecessary travel?). :puzzled

The DC quarterfinals starts tomorrow. Steve Tignor has peered through his crystal ball and sides with GB, France, Italy and USA. I agree with everything except USA. The Croats will win it.

What maniacs came up with this schedule? The top players have been complaining for years about overplaying, but in an Olympic year, they also have the DC QF's so soon after Wimbledon! I say "go Ryder Cup" route and do DC every other season! It's just too much for a player like Nole that makes final after final for the most part! :puzzled :nono  :cover

I think clay being the surface plays an important role in Andy's unwillingness to play as he stated that his body needs time to adapt to clay multiple times. If the tie would have been on hard court he might have played, but changing from grass to clay within a few days and then go to hard courts in the weeks after was probaly not something he was really interested in.

I can very well imagine that the Serbian federation knew Novak was unlikely to be available anyway so they chose clay to enhance the chances Andy won't participate either.

Rosol has defeated Tsonga in a match that went to full distance.

James Ward is a set and break up against Tipsy. The match is interrupted. The tie between GB and Serbia is expected to take a lot of time due to bad weather. This may be a week long DC tie. :)

James ward finished off Tipsy.

Unbelievably, Sock beats Cilic in 5 sets. Isner is 2-0 up in the next match. Now, USA looks almost certain to make it to SF with Bryan Brothers playing the doubles.

After the doubles match, GBR, ARG, FRA are leading by 2-1.

USA is leading by 2-0 with the doubles to be played in a few hours. The doubles may clinch it for USA as Bryan Brothers are playing.

The Bryan Brothers lost the doubles match in a 4 setter to Cilic & Dodig. Now it will be Isner vs. Cilic and Sock vs. Coric. USA needs one of these two wins. Croatia needs both wins.

Argentina has clinched SF spot with Delbonis beating up Fog. France also has clinched SF spot with Tsonga defeating Vesely. They are waiting for their opponents to be known.

With all other members of big four out of DC scene for this year, GBR has a very good chance of defending its title assuming Andy plays in the SF and F. Given that the remaining ties will be after all the slams are over, there is a high chance that Andy will play in SF and F.
