Domi is in a slump like Berd is on the ATP

The upsets continue, they pick up where they left last night.
Flavia Pennetta the #6 seed is knocked out in straights by Alison Riske.
Alison had a good run here last year, her good fortune continues.

What's the origin of Domi's slump BTW? Did she get hurt or was the attention too much?
BTW, glad to be back from my hiatus...got a new job and didn't want the new bosses to know that I was obsessed with a tennis forum.:snigger

Tell me it's not so Simo!
Tell me you didn't lose the first set to Maggie...

Magdalena took it 6-2, this was unexpected!
Simo breaks early in the second.

This might be a blessing in disguise for Halep, seeing the USO starts soon.

***HUGE SHOCK***

I am stunned!
Did not expect this at all. It may be good for Halep, she gets some rest before the open.
But it will cost her dearly. 470 points to be exact.

Petra is next. Is she going to stop this upset streak?
Petra is defending 320 points here.

Wise interpretation of the situation fahsionista, still a surprising result, but there seems to be more upsets in the last few weeks than I can recall for sometime.

Petra won the first set vs Makarova. Given her poor history in the US, beating Makarova would be considered an upset.

She is suffering from the usual slump-causing factor of 'Great Expectations'. When one is now considered to be a top player and you are expected to beat everyone below your ranking and a few above your ranking, one may bend under the weight of 'Great Expectations"; two words that carry much weight.

I havent posted anything since the painful lose to dirty screampova in Cinci.
I needed 5 days to recover from my own mental injury and I imagine that Simona needs a bit more time than me

Simona lose in R1 in NH is the best thing that could happen to her.

Reasons:
1) She finished the match healthy with no injury and will be physically fresh for USO.

2) The most important reason:
She needs to take care of her mental injury caused in the dirty screampova match. The way she was bullied in the 2nd set... she must find a way to counter punch and keep form under pressure the next time she plays dirtpova. She now has a week to calm down and process things in her mind and heal.

3) Variation, variation. The change of events compared to her last year destiny is good for her. She hates routines and always needs some excitement to work her brain with. She is not the robot type.

For me, the best Simona is the "shark Simona" wearing all black and kicking @rse. Not the "pink Simona". She cant effort playing routine tennis because she is a little girl in size.
She needs to go back to FIGHTING mode. I know... "everyone fights", but not really.
She stopped fighting on court since Doha March 14. She stopped being "mean".
She won Doha after fighting hard in the fed cup. After bad loses to Babos and Mladenovic, she started the grind and fight. Thats the real Simona.
Its time to go back there, to her success real secret. Enough with the pink stuff.
I hope she "switches". She has a week to heal her brain.

In the long run, NH is just another event. What matters is how she reacts now. She needs to find her basics and logic again (fight is above technique) and stop the day dreaming.

One more thing, I am happy with her having more fans and h_a_t_e_r_s :D
It means that she is on the main stage and effecting it.
Thats how humans are. Bring it on. We love this challenge.

You can put us TBA and 5th match on a rainy Wimby side court, Or court no.3 in Cinci... thats good!
It makes us fight harder. IN YOUR FACES...
Thats why we shout "SI MO NA" in an aggressive way... we know whats going on, and we LOVE putting it in your faces.

I enjoy kicking those smug @rses very much :D You know what I mean....... from east to west and back.
I am almost sure the REAL Simona will at last show up in NY. Simona, its teeth time !

I disagree with you. Domi is just lazy after every run of success. Now and then she has good runs and then falls to sleep. She is not the shy, fragile type. She is just lazy mantally. She is not the emotional Cornet type, she is the Nadia Petrova type who just gets bored or lazy.

Seriously I cant wait for USO now..
Its gone be interesting because Simona is wounded now and thats when she is dangerous. Not when she wears pink and "having pleasure on the court".
Her main title this year in Doha was achieved by fighting, not by "playing".
Thats the Simona I really like.

She kicked Aga @rse in Doha by fighting, then "had fun" in IW and could not match Aga intensity because fun was not enough.
I cant wait to meet the fighting Simona again. I missed her for months :)
I dont mind if she loses and fails. I just want to see her FIGHT on the court. Thats the real Simona.

Si Si, I was expecting that you will complain about the "minor controversy" of the replay
point which Simona wanted to be awarded to her instead of replay.

Glad you did not make an issue of it.

I am no Povaite, but I thought pova had a play on it and the ruling was right.

Well Simona will now have a chance to work on her serve, which was giving her all kinds of trouble in New Haven.Another factor at the USO is the wind on Arthur Ash stadium swirls around,I hope she can serve in windy conditions.

I totally agree with you. Simona was wrong but I understand her reasons very much. She was overwhelmed again by the bullying in 2nd set, and she was not good enough to hold it on the day.
As I said above in other posts, the reason for her choke is very simple:
She stopped fighting in the last months and her brain switched to "pure tennis" mode. Its a mental error but thats how it goes in life. You start to fight only after defeats. Thats why screampova fights now each match. Serena gave her so much pain, she cant let go of the pain and she is fighting every match. Its a mental trauma.
Thats why screamer plays dirty. She is in constant pain and frustrated because Serena destroyed her joy of tennis. I think its a fact, its not my way to abuse sugarova.
She plays dirty and fights with everything she can get because of personal pain.
Maria knows what she is doing and she is aware of what she feels...
She is the symbol of frustration "thanks to" Serena.
