Nadal doesn’t have to prove anything either and of course less on clay, he has done more than enough and I don’t think any player will can do his numbers. And that’s why I’d love if he would skip one or two tournaments and to do something great in Wimbledon. I can’t understand why clay and grass is so close, they should have changed that calendar a long time ego, it’s very unfair for the players that played almost every final in on clay. Well look what happened to Novak after to win the RG, he played that year on grass almost crawling and later he started with some problems in his wrist, elbow and shoulder (at least that was what he said playing in the USO) and later you know what happened with him and his game, his team :banghead::eek: he was looking more desesperated than anything else

They all need something to make their resumes complete in their eyes! Nole needs a couple Cincy Masters and one more FO, Nadal needs another AO and a couple YEC's, while Roger's accomplishments can only grow, but will never be as complete as he'd like! He can't win another FO if he doesn't play and it's unlikely he'll get that OG in 2020!   :ptennis:

I think all three are much greedier than that. They would like to win everything if possible. Especially now when they are all past 30 and they know they won't play forever.

Speaking of greedy, it looks like Rafa is planning to play Barcelona.

^ I guess he didn't win it more than 13 times yet.

If Nadal is superstitious, he will stop playing before 2020.
He can safely bring his tally in all of MC, Barcelona & RG to oncema this year and docema next year.
But the looming trecema in 2020 is such a bad omen, that it's safer to just retire beforehand.

It all depends whether he's triskaidecophobic like me.

Encouraging sign that some of the recently injured guys, Kei, David Goffin or Milos are playing well again.

Sadly, Milos has withdrawn after he reinjured his bad knee yesterday. I heard that Goffin looked really good today, though.

It's a bummer for Milos. He can't seem to stay healthy for any length of time in the last...while, now. Sorry for your compatriot.

Bad move by Novak. Novak should have a taken to WC into one of the four (Rafa free) Mickey-Mouse clay tourneys that happens over the next two weeks. Winning a title would do a lot to one's confidence even if it is got by beating a bunch of nobodies. Then, he would be in the right form (both mentally and physically) to face Rafa in Madrid/Rome.

Now, the best that Novak can hope to achieve is to reach finals in Barcelona and lost to Rafa. That cannot improve his confidence.

I thought he'd pick a smaller one, too, but I like his style going for the higher level of competition.

In other news, Wawrinka says he's coming back in Madrid.

Novak hope needs review, given Barcelona draw: he will lose to Rafa in QF. No further going. Pretty safe bet, safer than ever.

More than likely... but it might be the manner of his likely defeat that will give us a better measure of where he is it. A Thiem-esque capitulation would be the last thing he needs right now... but if he got in a decent match, even in a loss, it could give him a big boost.

Let us say that if Novak does not get reinjured (arm/elbow) after responding to 5000 rpm topspin forehands, it will give him a boost.
