Like the "half glass full" point of view quickly the Murray fan base adopted ;)
Of course I have not watched, so I have no clue how he played, but this will play into Roger's hand, as he keeps Andy at a sizeable distance.

You can go back through this thread and read how he played. I pretty much summed it as it happened.

Murray plays tough when he wants it seems! He waits until he's in trouble before decided to tighten it up! Reminds me of FO semi against Nole; decides to finally get tough in the 3rd and 4th! If this knucklehead would come out playing aggressively from the beginning, he wouldn't be worn out by a 5th; nor need it! Just one brain-damaged player who is destined to languish in the 2nd tier of players! He has all the tools and works hard, but like Rafa hangs back near the fences waiting for an error! Just running around retrieving is just a stupid way of playing if you have the ability to do more IMO! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy: :eyepop

What? You want me to give up on his season, curse his shotty play, and concede the rest of the hard court season?

Not my style. One bad loss doesn't make a season.

its a good loss, not as if andy played badly. lots of tennis ahead so mr lightbulbhead can have his win.

Generally speaking sometimes Andy plays bad and loses; sometimes does not play bad and loses. :snicker :cover

I agree with you that Murray can be too defenisve - although why you have to use such offensive language like 'brain damaged' is beyond me - but just to correct you, Murray didn't decide to 'finally get tough' agaist Nole in that match. In sets 1 and 2, Nole played good, aggressive tennis, and if Nole does that, he will beat Andy, because he's a better player. Then in the 3rd set, Nole started getting tentative, tightened up - and he allowed Murray back into that match. If you rewatch that match, Murray won those 3rd and 4th sets by winning the long rallies with amazing defense, and capitalising on Novak's erorrs. And the reason there were even long rallies for Murray to win was because Novak was not playing as aggressively. Then, in the 5th, Novak decided to play his precision offense again, and if he does that, Murray cannot win anyway. That match was on Novak's raquet throughout. He let Murray back in when he could have closed it out in 3.

As a Murray fan, I'm delighted he lost, I was hoping he would. Way too much more important tennis coming up soon. Why did he even play this tournament? Crazy.

Lately, yes. Some of them joined us recently, but at one point only Iona was his dedicated fan. And moxie was backing her up, whenever Rafa was missing in action or lost early.

Strange and annoying loss. Gabashvili played out of his skin so fair play to him but Murray served for the match and that should have been that.

More important tournaments to come and a deep run this week may not have been helpful in the Masters events so maybe this is a blessing in disguise, but still p***ed about staying up to 4am for that ending.

Even I was ready to anoint Murray as #2 in the world with the best results of the season behind Djokovic! This is a huge setback IMO and he should be terribly embarrassed letting it get away from him with this "no name" player last night! I've been saying both Rafa and Andy allow close matches with players not in their class being so defensive, hanging back near the fences and it's cost him! He may not be able to pass Roger now, but of course things can change! His brain has to be in flux with Amelie away and Jonas in her place; you'd think he'd press and close out matches sooner! I can't believe his coaches aren't telling him the same thing; "don't wait to be in a deep hole before you start digging out!" :cover :eyepop :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

He has still big chances to become #2 again. But this trip of his to Washington did not pay off.

Really miss Iona. She is what I liked best about Andy.

I think Isabelle has also been a fan of the dour McToothy...

Saw the highlights and Gabby was playing some quality tennis. Andy will be fresher for the big tournaments. No great loss. Onward.
