Right shoulder? Makes sense with his serving, but that's a shame.

Too bad for Goffin. He's had poor luck with injuries. Good news for Roger's chances. A good hit-around, some confidence and now he gets to rest. I don't think Roger and Novak have played since Novak's sink in 2016.

He's gotten wild even on open court shots which are flying into the stands! Goffin just retired! :nono: :(

It's so sad he retired, buddy. Wanted a full match atleast. :(

Sure! He's best equipped to stop Djoker and the confidence train tomorrow, in the lead up to USO. Roger needs this not to go long, though, but Djoker is not convincing enough to beat Roger here.

I don't think it matters much if Djoker wins or loses tomorrow for US Open purposes. He is going to be the man to beat there IMO.

Besides you are just going for the lesser of two evils here. I think Roger was starting to get his feet under him that second set too. Rafa will be hoping to avoid both of them. The solace for Rafa fans is that both Roger and Nole look a little inconsistent this tournament.

The players overwork themselves in matches so playing 2 yesterday probably didn't help! I was put in that position; trying to make up matches, we played 4! I was already nauseated by eating a Brats between a match; the heat just made me dizzy! Got thru 3, but by the 4th match I was a limp dish rag playing the 12th seed! :negative:  :( o_O :rain:

They were talking to Gilbert about "winning ugly" in the context of this match. (His book title, most will remember.) BG says that even Roger's winning ugly is pretty good looking. LOL.

There was nothing good looking about the first set aside from the serve.

Fed going for his shots at the end of the first set gives me hope against fakervic. If he does that all match tomorrow then he should win this. But these mid match slumps will cost him big time against faker, that's for sure.

Let me enjoy it in my own way. Rafa would always be happier to see Roger, let's face it.

No question there.

It will be interesting tomorrow, hopefully Fed can bring it.

Federer was starting to find some form in his groundies from 5-4 in the first set.

Hopefully he returns well tomorrow

It will be if/since they haven't met in a couple of years. This shortened evening is going to help Roger. I do feel for Goffin. What crap luck he has.

For us Roger fans, Cincy has become the poor man's USOpen.

I still have hope he will seize the moment and stop stinking up that place to high hell. Get a nice draw and take the kingdom of New York.

He's had his fair share! If he wants to be greedy, stick to the tourney more associated with his winning; Wimbledon! Five USO's in a row shows he made his mark; allow someone else some glory and exposure beyond "The GOAT!" :nono:  :banghead:
