Sly little bastard digging this up. Yes I did not expect Djoker to win 3 of 4 since then. If he wins this USO, and he is favorite to do so, he is an enormous threat that is for sure. Still a threat even if he doesn't. Main issue I've been wrong on is the Next Gen. They are still currently nothing and I thought that'd change by now.

I haven’t sensed that since JMDP won the USO a decade ago. I thought he was going to be the next big thing, but his injuries stopped that. Since then? No one comes close to what I sensed in JMDP.

Yep; Del Po was supposed to join the "Big 4" making it the "Big 5!" He actually played the top players tough, but wasn't cracking them for the most part! His biggest wins outside of '09 USO over Roger came against Nole; twice in the Olympics! Then there was Wawrinka, but it wasn't even injury that cost him; more his own inconsistency and lack of confidence! Being owned by Roger alone has limited his record/resume, but dropping early round matches to "also-rans" after winning a major is inexcusable! The latest crop of NG'rs look good and show promise, but we've said it before! I'm gonna wait until they actually do something! I'm gonna keep my eye on Tsitsipas, Thiem, & Medvedev! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:

I defend your saying that a year ago. What the Big 3 have been doing post-30 is new territory, so it's not unreasonable to think/have thought that it can't last forever. I also agree that I thought the Next Gen and Next Gen + were going to step up more this year than they have. @tented makes a very good point above that we really haven't seen anyone who seems such a Next Big Star since del Potro...and that was thwarted.

I don't understand! WTH do you want? If age is a factor QUIT! Martina didn't & she took her lumps from Graf and Seles along the way!
I told that to Darth before, You can’t bring age into the equation when Roger looses.

It was supposed to JMDP but it was Stan who became da Man afterwards the big 4.

Wow you hate Djokovic and Murray so much to the point of naming your account/username after them?
I never categorized Djokervic or Murray as pushers.. they're defense is what may make it appears that they are not offensive minded players but that is false..me migusta Senor Nole and Sir Andy, Mucho..(BTW..would I sit court side front row if I hated Novak's game.

Funny, I often see Nadal and Djokovic fans bring up their age when we talk about Roger's era when he dominated the tour.

What do you think the reason is that Roger has done rather terribly the last 7 seasons aside from 2017 and very early 2018? Did he suddenly forget how to play tennis.

For starters Nadal and Djokovic became full adults and hit their prime. Do you think that Federer losing 20 matches in slams to Nadal and Djokovic is a "coincidence"? Take those 2 out and he would be sitting on at least 35 slams by now. That being said, the tour improved too and players continued to become more and more powerful.

So they weren't full adults in their early 20's but Federer in his late 30's isn't old. Must be a miracle never to decline even though his results have mostly been trash for the better part of the past 6-7 years.

The tour hasn't improved by the way, that is why there is a lost generation and now, thus far, a very underwhelming Next Gen.

The 30’s are the new 20’s. Look at the tour! Tons of people are peaking in their 30s so get over it. This is not 1980 or 1990 anymore.

I wouldn't say tons. Also you are talking guys in their early 30's that are usually 2nd or 3rd tier players to begin with. For the top 3 guys, who all had tons more mileage by their late 20's than others have in their early 30's, it is clear they were past their best in their late 20's. They all had a disaster of a season around age 28-29 and eventually had to retool their games to stay relevant.

How so? You going to pretend a lot of Nadal and Djokovic fans didn't bring up their age when Roger was dominating?
Darth, I don't even like SOME of the so called Nadal's and Novak's fans on this board..I don't know if they have used their ages as excuses.i know I haven't..

They pretty much all have done so. How many players Roger's age are left? Maybe Lopez and he's trash whereas all the Roger haters like to pretend that he is not greatly diminished as he should be.

even if I rooted for David, Meddi deserved to win a final at least, he could be tired for USO I guess

No, tiredness won't be an issue. He has a week of rest now and he is too young to be tired by three weeks of continuous play.
Well, he himself did say after his win yesterday that he was exhausted and was going to spend a couple of days in bed staring at the TV. But yes, he's young...should recover fine. But then it will depend how deep he goes. He made the 4th round of AO this year, with a couple of 3rd round finishes at Majors previous to that, so late stages would be new territory for him. Plus, he's probably going to get a lot more attention than he's used to. Will be interesting to see how he holds up.

hope young exhausted Meddi can have a good USO, he's really talented and seems to be a hard working guy
