I could see Tsonga winning a slam if the stars aligned for him the same way that they did for Stan in Australia.

It's harsh to compare the Toronto/Cincy fortnight to a slam and conclude that he can't play well for two weeks therefore he couldn't win a slam. Toronto saw Tsonga play and beat four top tenners in four days and then get one day off before having to play again. Throw in the mental wear of the matches being semi finals and finals and that's a slightly different ball game than what you'd have to overcome in the first week of a major.

Today's matches - Andy shouldn't have any trouble with Sousa. I can see Roger struggling a bit with Pospisil. Janowicz actually played a solid match the other day and could be dangerous for Grigor...

Got my eye on James Ward though I'll be a bit surprised if he can sneak past Benneteau.

Completely different also for the mentality, because when playing two tournaments in row and win the first one, you have to get over the potential excitement and even complacency, then have to come back with a day in between. In my opinion, losing in the first round at cincy says absolutely nothing about his potential to play two good weeks at slam. Completely different situations.

Dimi levels at 6-3. Heading to the decider. Interesting stats: Neither player has served an ace. Dimi has 0 DF's while JJ has 4.

Berd's struggle continues. Drops the 2nd set to Lu and is now in a decider. Andy is one game away from a straight set win.

My app says JJ on 10 aces and Grigor on 4?

GSM Murray 6-3, 6-3

Berdych a break down in the decider already. A loss here would mark a real nadir in this mini slump of his.

I'm watching a stream on SKY Sport and they had no aces for either. :puzzled

Berd is sliding down a slippery slope. He needs a head adjustment quickly if he wants to salvage the rest of this year.

JJ pours the pressure on and gets the early break 2-0

The mad doctor is serving for the match over Seppi 6-3 5-4

Jerzy up 4-1 in the decider. Dimi will need to pull off another comeback (or hope for a choke) if he wants to stay in this tournament.

JJ one game away but having a tiff with Lahyani over nothing.

I dont like the bloke but I'm all for someone stirring up what appears to be the established order and any chance of Janowicz becoming a factor again spices things up.

Ward already down a break to Jules :(

maybe jj has bottomed out and can start to climb up. 2 wins in a row.

sir grigor is left to think about trying to win his 1st singles match at the u s open in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, this is grim stuff for Grigor. He wasn't well a couple weeks back, but I was hoping he'd get a bit of a run in Cinci. I wouldn't despair of him for the USO yet, but it's not the best prep...

Berd falls early again at the hands of Lu. Slump is officially gaining speed.

Hope so. Had given up hope for him (JJ) but this is a better week and his serving is much better than usual lately.
