Benneteau can give trouble to good player like Fed, Hewitt etc; but against, a lucky loser
he needs a third set tie breaker. It is always the case for him.

Tsonga must have been out "partying" after his masters win ..prob an all nighter looking at todays el floppo crappo scoreline.

I would not be so sure. The week he had in Toronto took a lot out of him. And Youzhny played really well, swinging freely.

I agree. It was an amazing run and an emotional win, then he plays the good Dr. two days later. It's not shocking the he felt a little flat today, and as someone pointed out above, there's really nowhere to hide in a MS1000 draw.

Djokovic looking sharper so far than he did v. Jo Wil last week.

Djoker looks a bit keener, eh? He's had quite a summer, maybe Toronto was just the hangover...

I was thinking the same to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised but at the same time I wouldn't blame him. He deserves it after the week he had in Canada.

No real disaster for Tsonga but a good win for Youzhny, much-needed too with the year he's been having.

Nole currently dealing with Simon in fairly routine fashion.

Maybe Novak deliberately tanked in the hope of tiring Roger and Andy in Toronto as this is the one he wants. Stranger things have happened and before people say he wouldn't do that, prove it 'cos he looked pretty damn disinterested against Tsonga and the smile of whatever at the end backs that disinterest up. In any case, this is the only one he's missing for his masters trophy cabinet.

I don't know if I'd be that arsed about finding a way around rampaging Tsonga just to reach the quarters of Toronto when I'd just won Wimbledon and had Cincinnati in the coming week which is the one needed to complete the "Career Golden Masters" - anyone else think that's a crap name by the way?

I don't know about "tanked", it's not a word I like to use relating to the top guys who are competitive enough to win majors, but I certainly think Nole could have tried harder in that match.

I don't think he'd deliberately lose though in the hope of his two rivals getting tired out. Djokovic is a proud guy.

^ There's a very fine margin between could've tried harder (a lot harder) and clearly couldn't be bothered trying at all. I'd still call both tanked since he made practically no effort in that match.

What the? Nole was a break up at 4-3, gets broken twice in a row and Simon takes the set 6-4 to force a decider.

Saw that Simon was 5-4 up on live scores. Guess he's annoyed at the Wimbledon defeat. Good going and he's much more dangerous in shorter matches in best of 3 as his knee and fitness have been issues in the past a lot.

Simon is a tricky little bugger when he fancies it. Didn't watch the first two sets but it seems like Nole has allowed Gilles to get into this mood more than anything. Djokovic is having a bit of a sulk, struggling to light the fire.

Simon really needs a haircut. He looks like Christopher Walken with a perm.

Big hold for Djokovic. I'm guessing Simon will be out of tricks.
