Maybe he can follow Feli and Tsonga into a late-career surge. But it's going to take a coaching change or a cattle-prod.

Really struggling to see that, sadly. Maybe he can do what Feli's on now and get back into the top 16 but I don't see him threatening a Masters 1000 or slam, or making an impact on the top ten.

Still though, never say never, I suppose.

I don't think he's going to make a serious resurgence, but he can make an impact, if he recommits. By which I mean spoiler, not world beater. I'd say that's where Lopez is, too. Tsonga is at least at a higher level of spoiler, but I'm not betting him or a Slam. They're all at a place to mostly just ruin someone's day, in a Major. They're not going to win it, and only Tsonga is going deep.

Today our Sportsnet channel in Canada started the broadcasting with the very tough R1 encounter between Cilic and F. Lopez. This is similar to one disputed yesterday btween Isner and Anderson.
Only in masters 100 you will see in R1 2 top 20 players playing against each other.

Cilic through in straights, faces Verdasco next.

My man Wardy having a good day on Court 3, 3-0 up against Garcia-Lopez after coming through qualifying with a pair of straight sets wins over Kamke and Mathieu. Playing well.

Domi Thiem up next on Court 3 too :) .

Rats. Two of my Spanish boys out already. The Lopez "brothers." So much for Feli's good run.

Jo looking exhausted, not altogether surprising, but a shame. Youzhny about to serve for the match having lost just three games.

Great performance from Ward earlier, hopefully he can keep it up.

Youzhny - Tsonga 6-1, 6-4.
The pressure got to Misha when serving for the first time for the match, got rebroken, then again in the second attempt to serve it out, he was up 40-0, he lost the next 3 points having a DF as well, but then he had two strong first services and closed it out.
Tsonga looked completely out of focus and he might have been mentally and physically tired after his effort in Toronto

Glad to see Ward do well, I always liked that lad. He's clinging around the fringes a lot longer than I expected him to...

I would not be so sure. The week he had in Toronto took a lot out of him. And Youzhny played really well, swinging freely.
