I think one of the reasons why Ana is having a good year,is the improvement of her back hand, which was her weaker shot, also her defense on her back hand wing has improved.

Got to agree with your summation on this court uproar, Kiu!! No matter if we like certain lady players, but far and away the men draw the biggest crowds and attention. We just have to see how many people are on this site, men's versus women, and it is the men that draw way more attention! Sorry, Si Si I know how you stand up for your Romanian Sweety, but as noted Genie is not on centre court and I am not going to wave a heavy hockey stick and demand restitution for that!

The other thing about it being a dual event, is that the slots are filled to a particular, pre-defined allocation - and usually in the evening, it's going to be one WTA and one ATP. Given that Serena is on that day, it's highly unlikely she will go to the 2nd court - and nothing new there, so that leaves the other slot filled by an ATP match

Madison Keys will pass Sloane Stephens for the first time in the next WTA rankings,Sloane has missed Wuhan-Beijing tournaments with wrist issues. It will be a interesting match up when Keys plays Petko later today.

According to my maths, someone can correct me if I am wrong here.

Neither Simona or Petra can catch Serena,if she loses early in Beijing and YEC.The only person that can finish as No 1,other than Serena is Maria who has no points to defend, but she has to win Beijing and YEC,Serena has to lose early in both for that to happen.
If Serena wins Beijing, she will clinch year No 1 immediately.

Very famous hockey player named the Pocket Rocket too, fashionista. Henri Richard of the Montreal Canadians, younger brother of the illustrious Maurice Rocket Richard! Just a little hockey memorabilia for you! I broadcast over 400 hockey games on radio, mostly junior games( 1970-2003) but two NHL games for the Vancouver Canucks.

I am NOT going to dismiss Petra's chances here like the rest are.
If she plays like she did Saturday, there is no one who can beat her.
Petra is in better form than anyone here.

I agree Petra played well all tournament at Wuhan and deserved her victory
The only time Petra has won back to back titles was at Linz and the YEC in 2011
Petra is a player that can quite easily go out in a first rd match to anyone.

I don't think anyone is dismissing her chances here, but you know she can win one minute then be the worst thing on the court the next minute. I like to refer to it as cautious optimism.

But last time she won Wimby she sweeped the YEC too.
She is sitting even prettier this time. Her first opponent is Peng, Petra hasn't lost to Peng in 5 meetings.

^ Point taken with the h2h against Peng,I really hope that Petra can maintain her form from Wuhan into Beijing.Though I have to agree with Sunday's post,I always remain cautious where Petra is concerned

I don't know. The end of the year in tennis is always so hard to enjoy because you have some players fighting and trying to end the year on a good note, and others who are just kind of lackadaisical about it since the slams are done.

Well Tented you know how I feel about the men - I don't give a f..k - at least you could have extracted all the emtpty lines. An idea of when things goes on - look at the estimated times on my list. Well you're the boss. That said let's get on with todays matches. Starting with a very interesting matchup Sharapova - Svitolina. It will not be a walk in the park as Svita is on a rise right now lately beating Kerber. So if Maria is going to survive round 2 she's going to have a decent workout.

Weather pretty chilly - 14 c - but sunny and free of smog - for now.

Radwanska is playing Vinci on the Moon court and is shown on Tennis TV and I'm vatching both via stream.

Where Simona plays
I found one difference between Simo and her Chinese tween sister !
Different hair style.

Same height 168cm
Same style of play
Same dress colour
Same shoes colour

Zhu must be her Chinese reincarnation :) :)
