This is a BIG opportunity for Nadal to widen his lead over Federer for the number 1 ranking. I knew before this tournament started that winning this title for Nadal will give him big confidence going into the indoor season AND it will give him an opportunity to widen the gap over Federer.

It will be a tough one that's for sure because Kyrgios is playing well and he is seems happy too. I really hope Nadal can finish the job.

@rafanoy1992 Nicky was happy yesterday. But today is different story altogether. Per the norm, he's all over the map and had a meltdown over nothing really. Losing in straights and trying to avoid the bagel.

Definitely when Rafa plays and serves well is not easy to beat him, today he has gave a lesson to Kyrgios telling him how to win with only three aces.

I'd love if he would skip Shanghai which is so close but I know it's to ask an impossible. Hope he leaves that tournament soon, good rest, then being more fresh in Bercy and ready for London

Kyrgios seemed focused and ready to go, initially, but a call he didn't like early on sent him down a bad path. Was it nerves for the final, or Nadal's good play, or Nick being Nick? But Nadal was very sharp. Shame, though, I thought it would be a better match.

A bad call at the begining of a match has to do nothing with the final result, he just has got a good clinic by one of the greatest player of the history.
There’s is something very clear, Kyrgios for one reason or another is not able to win a tournament, I see always there is an excuse for him but obviously he wants to win like everyone else

Kyrgios just wasn't going to cut it serving at close to 50% against Nadal.

For Nadal it has to be so satisfying to win a tournament when you MP's against you in your first match.

For Shanghai I'm guessing he doesn't play until Wednesday.

Even Darth would be impressed by then way Rafa kicked da azz today.. Carol was correct, good time for revenge and he needed to play like a real world’s number one.

I think he's playing his best HC tennis of the year. Looking very confident!

I'm not excusing Nick, nor underplaying how well Rafa looked today and in most of the tournament. It was a shame that he let whatever it was bother him so much that he didn't put up a better fight. Tell the truth, the Rafa fan in me liked to see him have an easier day. I actually was pretty relaxed all along...I didn't even think yesterday that Nick would win this. But I thought it would be more fun to watch.

I can't stand Kyrgios' attitude. He's a lot like Tomic (only much more talented and slightly less embarrassing) in that when he's losing, he wants to make it about himself. He goes into these meltdowns, almost subconsciously to justify why he's losing. You can't let a line call in the freaking first game of the match to ruin your whole mental state and focus. Embarrassing.

Agreed..When Rafa plays dominating tennis like today, it debunks whatever hypothetical scenarios Fed fans like Front can create about how lousy Rafa’s opposition was that day or evening. Rafa needs a performance like this or RG 2008 vs Roger to really put the GOAT talk back on track. Imo

Here's a proper, realistic and unbiased report of the match and yes, a guy like Kyrgios can let a bad call at the start of a match get to him as he's a headcase. Anyone can tell serving below 50% and only 3 aces was the real reason he lost and that doesn't matter who he was playing.

"Kyrgios started Sunday struggling with his serve and never found a confident range throughout the match. His first-serve percentage mostly languished under the 50 percent mark."

"In the semifinal I played well, obviously beating Alex (Zverev)," Kyrgios said. "It's a typical type of week for me: beat a player well, then pretty much no-show."

If you're immaturely referring to the RG 2008 final you should realize Toni Nadal even said (as if it wasn't obvious anyway) that Roger played a really bad match there. I re-watched the first set of the match a few months ago and neither of them played well tbh btw, in set 1 anyway.

Btw, when a big server neutralizes his chances of winning by serving only 3 aces and less than 50% first serves in they won't win so, yes, he was lousy, Captain Obvious.

First at all Kyrgios did 8 aces for 3 of Nadal. Second, Kyrgios is a guy very insecure and likes that everything has to go on his side and when he can see his opponent is playing better than him he is getting frustrated and that's is a very bad reaction and more playing against a player as Nadal who is not going to give him any opportunity. Third, to think he lost because that call at the beginning of the match is completely ridiculous, then many players never would have won some matches but they did after a bad call.
At least he didn't cry today like he did in theLaver Cup exhibition when he lost against Federer, I've never seen that before, come on!

You may be the only person on this Earth that would make the claim that neither player didnt play well in that match. Rafa totally dominated Roger who won less than 6 games totally for the entire match, Go back and rewatch the match with the unbiased objectivity of a tennis fan, not a Fed fan.

Broken is a realistic Nadal fan and said that call in the first game was why he lost that match so badly. Most would agree. Trying being unbiased and realistic for once. Go read the comments section on tennis.com and you'll see most people said Nick tanked the match after that bad call. It's not the first time he's done this and it's not the last. The match against Federer he lost by 2 points while leading the decider. Hardly the same thing now is it?!

It was very sub par for all of set 1 and Roger played horrendous. Since the coach of your favourite player said Roger played very badly (can't see how any sane individual would claim otherwise), then I don't need to re-watch anything. It's hardly being biased when you state the obvious, ie Roger was crap and the reason he lost so badly was downright obvious.

Thats the dumbest analysis EVER,WHO DUMPS a TENNIS MATCH because of one line call in the very first game that was a replayed point.. That’s asinine and weak of any tennis player , fan or watcher..Nicky is bipolar and didnt have his happy meds to make him want to compete. That line call was just an excuse and a way to say he checked out. Nick never checked in. Same with you..you look for every excuse to discredit any Nadal’s victory. Thats what I like about KS and Darth, they dont fancy Rafa but they don’t spit out this nonsense of anti Rafa Narratives you consistently hurl at us like a drunken passenger whose alcohol and food intake are no longer able to co exist or reside in the same area.
