Only test cricket matches end in more draw than these.

Come on guys, one of you, I don't even care which one, win just one match please.

I beg to disagree here. There have hardly been any draws in test cricket in the past few years. In fact 18 draws in the past 132 matches

You may be right. I am not paying much attention to cricket for quite a while. I was speaking from my memory of test cricket from yesteryears.

Pretty straightforward draw yesterday as expected. Game 12 should be a hell of a battle. Caruana has white and today to prepare and he knows it is basically win or he's done. He isn't winning a 4 game rapid tiebreak.

I know there will be complaints about all the draws but that's where chess is right now and it will only be "worse" in the future. To me this match has been spectacular, almost all the games have been lively and the play has been top class. Game 1 was definitely the lowest quality and it's just gone up from there. Game 6 was especially great.

50 years from now I think there will be more of an emphasis on faster time controls and Chess960.

Hope somebody wins the 12th one.

Chances are still high for a draw today but chances for a decisive result is higher today than in other games. Caruana knows he won't win the tiebreak so I expect he's cooked up some major prep and will be ready to take more risks today.

If Magnus plays another Sicilian today, he truly has suicidal tendencies. You have to think he'll go for a non Berlin Spanish type opening. There's even a case for playing a Marshall attack as so much of that is all theoretical draws now

Crazy, not often you see the same opening 3 straight times in a WC match.

absolutely insane. Unless Magnus unleashes an improvement before Fabi can I don't see the sense in a game where not losing is your priority

Happened in Kasparov-Kramnik as the legend couldn't bust down the Berlin Wall and was too stubborn. Caruana did have the big edge in game 8 at least

I'm not loving h5 from Magnus to be honest. The only thing going for his position at the moment is that he's managed to activate his white square bishop. Giving white's dark square bishop rent controlled space on g5 doesn't seem intuitive to me if you're going to gain space on the kingside as black

I actually never play this one as black yet I don't like facing it with white either. But obviously I don't know anywhere near as much off-beat lines as these two. Caruana's position looks good already though.

Incredibly there was a mate missed by Fabi according to the Norwegian supercomputer on move 68... Clearly it would have taken inhuman calculation, but it's actually a beautiful sequence

Do they still do the Grandmaster versus Super Computer matches? I remember years ago when Kasparov played Big Blue (Computer) - i think Gary won. I'd imagine that given the computing power now, it would be an almost impossible task.

I used to lose to the ZX Spectrum 48K Computer back in the day.. lol

ha! They only tend to do those matches now with the computer giving a piece. The disparity in strength is utterly overwhelming now

Yeah the top humans no longer have a chance against computers. It'd be a major success for them just to draw.

Nakamura had an interesting match against a computer a year ago or more. I think they played 4 games, two were at a pawn disadvantage for the program, one the program was an exchange down, and one Naka started with a crazy lead in development, I think Naka went 1-2-1 or something.

I just checked and it was actually 3 draws and 1 loss. The loss, not surprisingly, was game 4 where the only edge was major development. Against a computer the top humans need material advantage over development.

what the hell just happened. Went away, came back, looked at the engine and Magnus is now at a bigger disadvantage than at any time during this whole match. It might be over already

seems like a moral victory for Magnus and also a temporal one given how much time Fabi has spent. I would love to know why Fabi isn't enthused about Bg5

Surprised he is taking so much time here. Black looks cramped. This opening is tough to play without the f5 push and it may be awhile before Magnus can play that.
