But more importantly, people need to realize that Murray is the better player on grass than Nole. In fact, he has the 3rd most consistent record on grass behind Federer and Hewitt in this era. He's probably the best player on grass right now.

Sort by Career Index, and Murray is No. 2 among active players.

On the active and non-active list, he's No. 4.

Not confirmed, but I expect Nadal to play doubles on the hard courts of Montreal.
Possibly Nadal/Monaco or Nadal/Robredo.

Well, we can scratch Monaco and Robredo from being Nadal's Montreal doubles partner. They have withdrawn from the tourney.

Probably Nadal will get a doubles wild card with Pablo Andujar, or possibly Feliciano Lopez.
There is almost no end to available candidates for Rafa in the Spanish or Argentine Armadas. ;)
Doubles Draw should be posted later today and will end the speculation...:)

Rafa: Pablo, you will play doubles with me, no?
Pablo: Si, El Gran Jefe

Rafa: Feli, be ready to play doubles if Pablo gets hurt
Feli: Si, si, El Niño.

Projected QF Match-ups

1. Djokovic --- Gasquet
2. Nadal --- Wawrinka
3. Ferrer --- Berdych
4. Murray --- DelPotro

There goes Murray's chances of winning this one.

@ Montreal & Cincinnati Murray has next to no points to defend,a good run @ either should make life easyer @ the USO.If Murray does not lose in 1st 2nd round @ Montreal odd's are he will go deep,he likes the courts @ Montreal.

murray should do well in montreal but he may need to just put in a relaxed effort in cincy. let the others suffer and toil in that heat and humidity.

general sid it may be time to fire up the cincy thread as well. lets get the ball rolling.

The Rogers Cup Montreal doubles draw is out, and Rafael Nadal/Pablo Andujar are indeed teamed up in the top half of the draw. But they've been slotted to play two other Spaniards right away. Their first round match is against David Ferrer/Feliciano Lopez.

Andy Murray is also playing doubles in the top half with Colin Fleming and they will play Benneteau/Zimonjic in the first round. They could meet Nadal/Andujar in the QF round if both teams make it through the second round.

Novak Djokovic is not playing doubles this year.

The Bryan brothers are the top seeds with 2nd seeds Granollers/M. Lopez slotted in the bottom half of the draw.

Other notable singles players playing doubles this week include Tomas Berdych, Stan Wawrinka, Tommy Haas, Grigor Dimitrov, Alex Dolgopolov, and Fabio Fognini.

Thank you for the update, masterclass.

That's quite a first-round match! Rafa and Ferrer will both dig in. (Oh, and Andujar and F. Lopez will be there, too.)

Ha! Seems, as per usual, a lot of guys want a few extra matches. I won't be worried about Rafa, CD. It's just a hit-around. Not surprising that Djokovic ISN'T playing doubles, I guess. He has to focus.

Couple of historical stats, which just underlines how much this event was dominated by the Big 4:
They won the last 9 Canada Rogers Cups: Djokovic 3 of them (2007, 2011, 2012), The other 3 2 each, Murray in 2009 and 2010, Rafa in 2005 and 2008 and Roger in 2004 and 2006.
You have to go back to 2003 to find a different winner Roddick.
Based on this, almost everything points to a final between the top 2 seeds, who shared the last 4 titles.

The obvious question is who would be if any of the 3 former winners competing unable to make it into the SF would be a big surprise and if the first time 3rd seed Ferrer makes this first SF in Canada living up to his ranking and reiterating his best year on tour once again?

Good background to the event, herios. I think Ferrer has a clear path to the QFs, but it gets murkier from there. But I wouldn't count him out, and he has good HC chops.

I see only one historical stat; where is the second one?

Answers to your obvious questions, as I have a functioning
crystal ball.

1. Murray will lose to Del Potro (if not to Baby Fed).
Special note to Iona and co: Not because,
he is a bad player, but because he will be day dreaming and
might even see Fred in those dreams.

2. Ferrer will make it to SF, but will lose to Del Potro.

I hope your crystal ball is shiny and clear because I am dreaming of a Nole - JMDP final in a big event like...fprever.;)
