I got a feeling that Ernie G may push Murray to the limit today.. This match has ambush written all over it, imo

Nah, Ernie pretty much only threatens to win against the big guns, but he doesn't have the guts to see it through. He might win a set today though. Murray has to love his chances of getting to the final against zero competition if DP can't go.

Vintage Nadal win....hardly anything special except consistency and constancy. Janowicz choked away both sets, but they were on his racket. He clearly had better shots and more game from the baseline.

But the match was a good lesson in consistency for him. If he is more consistent against Nadal, then beating him in the future will be pretty straightforward.

:clap :clap :clap

Always the first to give credit to the winner. And in this match, there was always only gonna be one guy who won it... :D

I agree credit to the winner being Nadal,JJ serve,as said, did not help him in this match.

I feel like it's time for a Mastoor style complaint about how much Adiddas is being featured on ESPN.

I guess no one told Gulbis that he didn't stand a chance today...

He wouldn't believe them if they did. He's got plenty of self-belief, does old Ernie, however ill-placed, for the most part.

He may have too much for his own good, but he is very talented and up a break.

Ernie is all talk, he hasn't shown much self belief on court in the big moments. Maybe today is different, but if Murray breaks back in this set I bet he takes the match.

He completely wins the "you just never know who's going to show up" category - certainly is today. But I can remember seeing him go down in straight sets in about 40 minutes...

So proud of Gulbis today! Playing at a great level, that I've been waiting to see for so long. Having a great year. Annnnnddd I hate Murray. So that just makes it sweeter. An ace sealed it too! That was great. Truly awesome tennis from Gulbis today. Standing up to the top guys.

But to be fair, while I think Gulbis did a great job at keeping Murray from playing at his best level, Murray just wasn't great today. It's his first tournament back after what I'm sure was a very exhausting post Wimbledon win trek, for all the interviews and everything else that comes with being the first Brit to win it in 77 years. So Gulbis may have gotten some help, but Murray still could have beaten him if Gulbis didn't play so well. So all credit to him. Great win for him. It will give him some much needed points seeing as he didn't even play here last year.

Both Wimby champs out of Canada. Marion retired on the women's side.

I agree with most of your post however I am pretty sure if Andy was at his best and so was Gulbis, Murray would win.
