There's that too, but he also makes his returns, forces the other guy to aim for too much. 2nd set will be interesting cos JJ didn't go away, and Rafa briefky took his eye off it....

Jerzy might be raw,but i think he plays a drop shot as good as anyone.

Straight forward in the end. A match like this is mother's milk to Rafa: let the ogre huff and puff and wait your turn. Big guys like JJ tend to go the same way, and the great players wait patiently to strike. Eventually the giant chap starts to miss...

Jerzy might be raw,but i think he plays a drop shot as good as anyone.

His drop shot is excellent but he uses it way too often. Once he gets a respectable backhand and improves the shot selection he will be deadly.

He hit a jumping backhand dropshot near the end there, I think at 4-4, it was quite unusual but impressive...

Jerzy hardly served well today which should be noted. And he won way more points on the dropper than he lost. In order to beat Rafa, he has to serve at his best, and today he didn't do that. Still, an entertaining first set.

I was following the score line - sounded like vintage Rafa. He struggles with the tall boys (some classic matches with Ivo and Isner), but usually finds his way.
