Monfils is doubtful, he'll decide at the last moment if he plays. Bercy is not is priority this year, he wants to stay healthy for DC's final (l'Equipe)

Chardy actually beat Federer this year in Rome, and took a set off him in Brisbane so I'm hoping Roger comes with his 'A' game. I'm also hoping Kohly can pull the upset today against Nole. I know it's bad form to root for someone to lose but I would love seeing Roger grab that number 1 ranking. He's had a great year that I think is getting sold short because he ran into a great Novak at Wimbledon and a freakish Cilic at the USO.

Karlovic is a break down in the second set as well. I am not watching and so I don't know what
is going on. Anyway, glad to see him (almost) out of Fed's way.

You have to write off that Rome win by Chardy. Fed was returning in that match after the
birth of twin boys. Brisbane was the beginning of resurgence. To sum it up, I am not worried
about Chardy even a bit in Bercy.

Pouille serving for the match. I have never heard of this guy before.

Pouille gets it done. Karlovic is out of Bercy.

Now I am confident of Fed reaching SF.

Fed's first opp is Chardy; second is Fog/Pouille; third is most probably Raonic/RBA. I don't
consider any of them to be a dangerous opponent for Fed.

The two finalist of last week, Goffin and Robredo, both won their first match today despite
a short turnaround time. Good job.

In ATP history (1973-2013) there have only been three years where the year-end #1 didn't win a Slam, two by Jimmy Connors - in 1974 and 1977 - and then John McEnroe in 1982. Interestingly enough, in two of those years another player won two Slams (Vilas in 1977 and Connors in 1982).

Interestingly, it is almost a norm in WTA. Since 2000 onwards, it has already happened seven
times in the last 15 years. I don't know how many times it happened before 2000.

Looks like Novak is no mood for messing around. Takes the first set 6-3. Seems to be making
quick work of Kohly.

When you are coming off a break and that too after a major life event, I don't think
Kohly is the opponent you want across the net in your first match. I could easily name
several other players who could warm Novak up without being a threat.

More than the physical aspect, Novak cannot afford to lose mental focus in this match.

It's not the best draw in the world, but its a Masters. Should be fine. Don't think Kohli is going to 'finish off' Novak lol. I think you have your mind set on that no 1 position. Roger wouldn't deserve it in the first place, he has not even won a Slam this year.

It is not a beauty contest, this number 1 thing. Where the points come from does not matter. You get more than anyone else, you deserve the spot.

A comparison to Wozniacki is something he will surely lose in any event. ;)

Slamless no 1 and losing a beautycontest... Man, well at least he has Mirka. :cover

If only they have scheduled the Lucas Pouille vs. Fog match also in the center court,
there would be six different matches each involving a French player on the center court.
