That primal scream he let out turned me off though.

heheh....but we have to give him a little space -- after all - imagine the ''tightness" in the chest all that match? keeping it all down to concentrate on his shots? hehe...sometimes i even think JACK is

sooooooooooooooo quiet...so like the characters in movies about the nebraska guy from the farm - shy, quiet, always standing ''behind" others in group pictures -- u know? ...so we have to give him a bit of ''unleash" ..hehe. he's really been growing on me , frankly.

i mean ''we've all seen for example ANDY RODDICK -- nice guy in his own way -- did quite some REALLY admirable things as a person, i thought, but also some CRASS things especially on court towards umpires --

so - to ME -- by comparison -- with a game actually MORE versatile with a SUPERB very dangerous forehand like that -- i'd give jack more room than i would if it was andy (although i actually liked andy).
YOU better be nicer to Jack, tennisfan

hehe...

Dmitrov is usually good for a set. Two? I'm not sure.

dimitrov is so good - but i think he still falls in love with his own game - and THEN he gets surprised that the other guy can sneak in a critical game changer and then he doesn't know how to recover and get back to doing the JOB --

not ''my shots are so pretty..like me..but why am i NOT winning when my shots are so pretty?" ...lol

Ha ha ha, Andy got on my nerves too. He wasn't funny at all, just corny. I guess Jack did have to let it out, but you know how that Paris crowd can be. Surprisingly they didn't get on his case.

I've seen Jack in interviews, your description is so apt, and he did seem like a really nice guy. One thing though, he is relishing being the number one American and that's a good. Ever since it happened he's become more aggressive. So, I guess I'll step back and give him another chance to grow on me. Hee hee hee.

Interesting. I haven't figured Grigor out. I can see what you're saying but surely he should know by now that it's not about pretty shots, but effective ones.

In that second set he seemed to suddenly let down out of nowhere. I don't know what the final count was, but the last I saw he had 51 errors! That's unreal. Some of those shots he went for didn't make any sense. It was almost as if he was afraid to win.

Anyway, I went to fix something to eat at the beginning of the Murray match. It didn't take that long and when I came back Tsonga was playing! That was quick.

I am shocked at Tsonga's fight back. I thought he was done and dusted when Kei served for the match. I didn't have a favorite in that match, so I'm glad that Tsonga at least extended his time. Kei's already qualified so that worked out.

Now, I'm watching Berdy, one of my faves, I know, I know, a lot of people don't like Berdych but I do and would like to see him go to the Finals. I also like Simon, but since he can't qualify I'm hoping Jo goes through. And lo and behold, although Simon leads in the H2H Berdman is on fire.

Still, this is the first set and Simon likes to stretch matches out so I guess we're in for a 3-setter. That's Gilles' M.O.

OH I don't know about others -- berdych has had HIS ''bad mouth" days like with nadal exchanges -- but things happen -- they are ALL jealous of each other to one extent or another and it's a matter of their personal abilities to tamp it DOWN ..

BUT AS A PLAYER -- Berdych is one of those i really liked, always. ever since his very early days.

just too bad that mentally there are the great ones that are just a tad ''up there" where he is NOT. - or at least -- not YET.

but that effortless power - my gosh. ONLY DEL POTRO matches them among these veterans - at least until we see what comes up from someone like kyrgios - these other young big guns ..but that's a different topic.

I remember when Berdych and Nadal had a run in. Wasn't it Tomas shushing Nadal after he beat him in Spain and Rafa thought it was rude? Years ago when I said that I liked Berdych a fan reminded me of this incident and I said, that's between Tomas and Rafa. Why would I be mad at Tomas. I've always liked Berdych for the same reason, that easy, effortless power. It's why Davenport was one of my favorites too. They hit the ball with such precision. It's a thing of beauty. I also think Tomas is handsome. So there you go, it's not all scientific.

Yeah, but they should be rooting for their home town favorite.

The pink district? Are you saying what I think you're saying? I don't want to put words in your mouth.

ya -- i think that was berdych shushing the crowd that was so for nadal - i think because it was in spain? davis cup or something?
it was such a huge thing at the time.

and probably under the protocols of behavior - a player shouldn't do that -- directly 'addressing' the crowd -- and that it was also about berdych giving nadal a big challenge -- so it made things worse or something like that --

but from HIS side it's the ''i'm the outsider here..." kind of thing.

but THAT'S the mix of events like that -- the individual and the crowd which consists of individuals -- and the crowd pressing on the individual with its suppot for their guy - and the individual player feeling defiant and then offends everyone...that kind of dynamic..so how is one really going to judge it?

at the end of the day -- ALL individuals - crowd and berdych were wrong. lol.

but in retrospect -- it's ''stuff happens" - it's not as if it NEVER happened in human history, u know? lol.

it becomes different when it becaomse a HABIT - disrespect of a crowd to a ''lone fighter, stranger in the land" -- and disrespect of a stranger for the FACT that the 'crowd can't help themselves' but be rude in their own way. so he either swallows it -- or

defies them.
and then it's one more day over. get OVER it. lol.

I'm holding my breath. Tomas isn't to be trusted and Gilles is the comeback king. I would hate for Berdych not to make the Finals.

hehe -- an even EASIER second set.

partly becuse tomas KEPT everything intact.

and simon i thought was flagging - i think he got tired..and lost power and precision and quickness..and then -=- called it a day ...i really s=uspect -- rare as that must be for HIM -- that even HE could succumb to ''what the hell -- it's just too hard...i wanna go home". kind of thingie...

but hey -- even as pros they're HUMAN, u know?

at least that's what i suspect just judging from how easily simon seemed to MISS. I CAN'T call it ''tanking" -- but i think something in his resistance inside snapped ...and curious to know what he said MORE LENGTHILY to berdych at the net -- it didn't look to be against berdych as simon was pointing his head ''back" to the court or crowd or something...like making a remark about ''something out there" during the match...and berdych gave him an extra backslap as if to ''re-assure" and just forget about it -- as it seems simon may have had a complaint about something -- but NOT towards berdych..

maybe the rest of you saw it differently -- just my imagination maybe.

but u know ANDY RODDICK had his fine qualities.

if they are true stories -- i don't forget that in those years he was big player --

he did these things:

when he was the sought after american star -- in signing autograps across the fence from the crowd...
so many people were pressing up to strethc their hands out to his signing...balls, etc...and there was this TINY little kid with her auntie that brought him there to see roddick - his idol -

and the kid and aunt could barely manage -- some feet away from andy -- and andy noticed THAT -- and what he did he REACHED OVER AND DOWN to the tiny kid - LIFTED HIM from under the big people and crowd - OVER the fence to his side and signed his ball...

the AUNT DAYS LATER -- after going home to maryland posted a small post in some local paper -- (i read it myself on daily news nyc ) -

saying"

"hi -- i am a yuoung aunt from baltimore and i was in NYC a few days ago to bring my nephew to see his idol andy roddick - it was my gift to my nephew for his birthday and we were so desperate and he was almos crying tha he can't get close to andy...but andy saw us and did this"

and she described it --

and then said" on the way home and for days now -- al my nephew talks about is how andy made him feel so special and that he will never forget it all his life".

aother time -- andy was in the hotel in italy for the ROME masters..they had a small fire in the floor BELOW roddicks'..and other players...everyone got out -- but smoke was already there -- and one player -- and his WIFE who was pregnant were still in their room next door -- so andy stayed behind - they were second floor to the street --

and helped the guy and his wife down out the window and terrace so they could slide DOWN on the tarpaulin under the terrace above the entrance of the famous hotel...and then he got down after them...

and as JIM COURIER said when he was davis cup captain ...

''ANDY -- NEVER, EVER turned down any of my calls and requests for an appearance...anywhere, anytime...fundraising, exhibitions, causes, donations...i called --even last minute..he'd take the plane and he came -- no questions asked".

those things -- i don't forget. and andy deserves credit for that as much as reprimand for his boorish behavior at time, lol.

djoko livened up a bit..but the whole match was a bit....meh, from both of them.

Tsonga trolled his own fans with a 0-6 23min set one loss....and then trolled nish by letting him have 2mp before winning in three.

i thought pretty shots and being nice were gonna win you matches, and Grigor has both in abundance.....he is even nicer than Fed, never had issue with others like Fed had with Djoker and Nadal.
