So Paire beats Robredo again for the second time in four days. I'll have to admit, I have never even given Paire a second thought until now. His highest ranking to date is No. 24 (back in 2013) and he's currently No. 42. Last week's Bastad was his firs title of any kind. He's never made it past the 3rd round of a Slam. Certainly enjoying a good couple of weeks at the expense of Robredo.

OMG, I turned away after the break in the 3rd set at 2-1! It looked as if Robredo was in control! Now I have to check repeat to see what in the world happened! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

The pattern what many players follow these days is:
They pull up to a point in their early 20's, then they underperform for a few years for various reasons, some could be objective as injuries, then after they turn 26, they get a second wind and this is when they will reach their maximum potential.
Paire seems to follow this pattern.
Paire in particular has had some injuries but his biggest problem was the mental aspect. He is hot tempered and many time he lost focus which led to defeats.
Today he showed a lot of guts, because he was down a break in the 3 set and Tommy was serving for the match at 5-4, then Benoit broke Tommy twice to pull it off.

Rafa's desperate now, dinking and dropping! This is so comical to see him jumping around like an idiot after a winner, then holding his head low when he passed or double faults! :ras:

Rafa manages to scrape through. Watched the second set TB alone. Apparently, Rafa was broken three times in the second set alone.

Rafa had seven double faults with no aces to go with. Further he had 33 unforced errors in a 2 set match.

He still has a lot of work to do.

I watched only the TB. But, based on that it did not look like Zverev played great either.

Horrible Stats for the former #1:

0 Aces, 7 DFs
30 winners
33 UE's
First serve % = 80
1st serve % won = 59
