Apparently the whole TF forum must have an IQ above Einstein's, seeing as we've been talking about that lack of power for a year now, excluding his FO performance last year.

You do know the story behind Marion's connection to Einstein, Puppet Master, yes?

Doesn't my post imply that I do? :D I mean, if we have all noticed this even before Bartoli did, how could that slouch Albert E even compare to us.

Does someone know something about those heavy Swedish balls that they are playing in this tourney? maybe that was the reason why Verdasco had so much trouble with the strings of his rackets trying to hit so hard. 85% of humidity and those balls are not a good combination unless they know how to handle it :cover :nono

Zverev and Coric lost again to the same players like last week, Robredo and Agut respectively.

Too bad. I was hoping one of them would make a breakthrough but not yet.

I do not think they are THAT good yet. We are just hyping them here, hoping for some miracles. It is nice enough that they are playing big events at 18, but do not expect big things all of a sudden.

Roberto Bautista Agut imo has such a horrible game. Woeful viewing. Thankfully I didn't see it, not that I'd have watched it anyway even if I wasn't at work :nono

Yeah, you're right. I'm just so ready for some fresh faces that I'm hoping for somebody to make a break through this summer. But maybe a year or two too soon.

I did not watch the match. But, Judging by the scoreline of 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, I would say Rafa is back on groove after some initial jitters may be.

They both started a bit scratchy. Rafa broke immediately, then Fernando broke right back. Then he became the more focused and aggressive in the first, but Rafa did get in a better groove after that. But Verdasco also missed a lot of break chances. Some good rallies between them, but Verdasco had a lot of UFEs in the last 2 sets. A good match for Nadal to get behind him.

I was impressed with the way Nadal hung on. That first game of the second set was the turning point of the match.

Agreed about that game. The commentators I was listening to even called that as possible, even before Rafa won the game. I don't know how many break points he saved in that game, and it was a long one. About 10 minutes? And Verdasco is just the kind of guy to let missing an opportunity like that do his head in, while Nadal gained confidence and played better thereafter.

I didn't see Coric today, but Zverev did seem "young" today, when the veteran got up on him. He got frustrated and rushed a bit. I think both those young guys are pretty mature and sturdy, mentally, with good games, for sure. It's going to take some seasoning and experience. But I'm hoping even next year we'll see a much bigger footprint from both of them, and from Thiem.

Bigger footprint, sure, the question is how big that will be.
I still bet on the guys who are a few years more experienced than them.

How big the impression they will make? Sure, that's unknowable. I'm not sure who the guys are that are a few years more experienced that you would bet on...the Lost Generation? Tomic? Dimitrov? Nishikori? Raonic? Cilic? I don't think it will take as long for these types to make inroads, and I think these youngsters will pass most of those guys.

For the people concerned or musing about Fognini being in the bottom of the draw and away from Rafa; doesn't look like he'll even make it going 3 sets again and again! He has to be worn down! :cover :nono  :dodgy:
