I must say I am not happy with the scheduling. There putting up the two finalists today on Tuesday against the toughest opponent. Lets hope David is fully recovered for his match against Nadal. Djokovic needs to defeat Federer. Again. Indoors.... Well let's hope for the best.

Ferrer was able knock off Ralf in 2 at Bercy. No reason why he won't do it again. :snigger

Novak playing Fed in London... it will be loudly for Fed. If Nole doesn't take the first set, I wonder if he kills himself to win or if he focuses on winning the next two.

He should kill himself to win, tank Delpo and beat Gasquet.

Doesn't he have to win all his matches to even have a chance at #1?

Depends how Nadal does. Not necessary if Nadal loses all his matches.

Forget #1 this year altogether, it's gone. No1e was supposed to beat Rafa at FO and USO to be #1 not to wait for the very end of the season hoping that Nadal will be gassed at O2. He should focus on winning WTF and DC if there is a chance for that.

Well, I agree with you that the best strategy to win the WTF (and keep up the h2h with the Fedster) is to put the most effort in the Federer and Gasquet match.

But there is this chance of YE no 1. Can't let that slip.

Let's see after the first match. If Nadal loses, I think he should go for it. Why not?

All this talk about tanking. :nono

Rafa tanked, Tipsy should tank a DC match to help Nole, Nole should tank a match against DP. Is this gonna be the new thing we cheer? "Yeah, Rafa didn't win, he tanked, so we congratulate him first - then his fans, of course - and then his opponent for being so naive as to actually win. And by the way, did you see Nole's tank? Such an obvious one!"

It's getting a bit silly. They're professionals - they should be banned if they tank. People don't pay good money to watch brats throw tennis matches...

EDIT: And fans shouldn't want their player to tank! It's tantamount to encouraging them to cheat. Stand up for the paying fans who want to see competitive matches!

Kieran, I like your ideas that are very advanced for a fan of the player who tanked 7 months of his career.

I see your point Mastoor. Better to win #1 outright rather than sneaking through the back door. He didn't do it when he had the opportunity.

:lolz:

There would be a lot of professionals banned from tennis over the years.
(not saying that it's okay or that I even like the idea, just that it's been happening for some time now)

I agree, and the umpire called players on it before. I think they should be banned. But it's almost impossible to prove. I certainly don't think fans should be rooting for their players to cheat. What about the paying fans?

Yet, the second most popular player is the one who is very keen on collecting low level tournament appearance fees. What are the paying fans? Those who buy tickets?

Yeah, Federer will end his career with the worst h2h of any great player against his supposedly inferior rivals...

It's what happens when you stick around 5 years after your prime. You'd be foolish to think all 3 of Nadal, Nole and Murray won't have the same thing happen if they are around at Rogers age. When it comes to the ones that count Roger is still ahead of Murray and Nole anyways and he is half as good now...

How does Broken say it?

It happens with all the greats who choose to stick around.

He has a losing record against Murray and Rafa and narrow lead on Djoker. In fairness, Murray and Rafa established winning leads on Federer when they were young and he was at the top of his game. It's more recently he's narrowed the gap on Andy...

Yes, "co-signed", though no great credit to Broken for co-signing what's blatantly obvious, but I thank him anyway...

So surely if he's narrowing the gap against Murray 5 years after his prime and beating him when over the hill that says more about how great he is rather than the opposite.

Oh, I think he's great, brother! Far greater than Muzza and Nole, no doubts about it...

Roger likes to feed off pace and back when Andy burst onto the scene he played a totally different game where he basically wanted guys like Fed to beat themselves. That sort of player has always frustrated him. Remember the 2 losses to Canas. Simon too. I think Roger fancies his chances more against Andy when Andy's playing him aggressively rather than feeding him junk and waiting for him to implode. That said, with Andy's frequent 130mph+ first serves and improved FH these days, coupled with Fed's greatly diminished ROS (although it looked pretty good against Novak yesterday. First time in years imo) it takes a big effort for a 32 year old Fed to beat him these days and when he does it's a pretty impressive feat given Fed's miles past his prime. Andy's 2nd serve is still a liability so Roger still has days he'll beat him.

I still fancy Roger against Andy at the highest level. He wasn't far off beating him in Oz, only he was knackered by the fifth. But Andy's old problems with aggressiveness resurfaced in that match.

By the way, Andy is on the Graham Norton show next weekend! :snigger

I watch that now and again, I prefer Graham to that tosser Jonathan Ross, but he blew it last week when he had Robert de Niro on - and was so nervous he spent more time grilling Jennifer Saunders! :lolz:
