I watched a whole documentary on her. I think there's a good case for racism.
Probably the same one i saw which was riddled with inaccuracies and had little knowledge of actual figure skating competition/judging.
Loved Surya but the racism card is pulled out about her but its conveniently overlooked that right before she emerged Debie Thomas, a Black American skater was World Champhion and an Olympic Medalist. Debbie was also primarily a jumper.
Another fun fact is that Midori Ito and Tonya Hardy were both her contemporaries and better jumpers so you can’t even say she was the best jumper in skating.
But it makes for a great story to say Surya was a victim of racism and thus why she never won an Olympic or World champhionship.
The wife took me to enough skating competitions, you really can’t compare skating until you see it live. THEN you appreciated edging and speed/flow that was also judged as well as jumps. Surya could only jump in a straight line because she had such poor edges. Weirdest thing.
Both Medvedev and Stan are looking good.
