I just woke up..Can someone explain to me why they closed the roof..Was it 105 degrees outside...It had to be that hot because the roof was open during the first week when the temperatures were over 100 degrees..Fed Fans please enlighten me..thanks

It was based on the temperature and both players agreed to it.

Props to Moxie. She is holding her own against a gang of euphoric Roger fans. Not many other Nadal fans here right now to help her.:)

So you concur. The memory of the Fedal era will be the rivalry, not the Slam count.

They'll remember the rivalry Moxie. But I wager they'll remember the trio of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic rather than just the Fedal rivalry. They will call it the golden age. But most of all they'll look at the slam count, they'll see Roger at the top. It will be shown when new greats are moving up the slam count. What they'll talk about most is how that Swiss fella Federer crushed it

The temperature hit 38C (100F) an hour before the men's final and the tournament organizers issued a statement saying that the WGBT reading was 32.7C (91F) at that time.

"With no dramatic reduction forecast, the referee exercised his discretion and called for the roof to be closed," Tennis Australia said in a statement. "At no other time during the event this year has the WBGT reading reached the threshold."

I think this is the last one for Roger. He might make finals again, but I think this was the last big trophy for the cabinet. Difficult to explain, but his demeanour and the way he reacted to the win, it almost seemed like a swansong. Like relief.

What would be ideal conditions for Federer fans and Nadal fans to decide who is the best?

It seems we're losing sight of Roger Federer's accomplishments in pursuit of the mythical GOAT. Roger Federer is a fantastic tennis player, and an astonishingly accomplished one. Why does he have to be better than any one has ever been in the history of tennis? He's pretty freaking good. Anyway.

It’ll only be the last one if he retires mate. 3 of the last 4 slams he’s played?

Personally, I think Roger is the GOAT, not just for the number of slams he has won. The way he plays tennis, the weeks at number one, the semi final streak, the versatility and the grand slam finals he has reached are also important when considering who is GOAT. Someone may overtake Roger's slam count, but I will still consider Roger the GOAT. He plays tennis in a unique way.

It is easy to say this is the last one. But, can you think of someone who can stop him at Wimbledon this year. Murray is out of action.
Nick might not last long enough to face Federer. I don't know, hard to imagine.

I know mate, but nobody predicts the last slam win after they've won it... I think the old champ left a lot out there today. Just glad him came through but unsure how often he can keep going back to the well.
