Nice win from Chardy! He's been playing well the last few weeks. (I hope I picked him in my draw.)

He has earned the right to a Ferret beat down.

Don't recall jj making such an unseemly noise when serving last year.. WURRRR-EHH.

He did at Indian Wells.

he really needs to stop, it is not the way to carry on.

It really is not new however. He has been doing it for a while. He sounds like a dying seal.

Classic match point from Ferrer on Mannarino's serve. It was a long rally, and Ferrer bullied him, and then picked him off with a winner. (And :ras: the those of you who diss him by calling him "Ferret." He's got more game and will than…well, you can imagine. The list is long.)

Newbie here to the "Ferret" moniker. I think it's clever. Even after Mannarino won a set, I doubt anyone really thought David would lose. He's fit ferret. :)

I think "Ferret" is new. And why is it clever? It's far less interesting that Farquaad. In any case, I'm sure it's only meant to be derogatory. (Look up ferrets…aside from being related to weasels, the obvious dig, they tend to sleep a lot…that wouldn't be like Ferrer. So which conclusion should we draw?) I'm not trying to give you a hard time, nehmeth, just tired of the cheap digs at David Ferrer. He's got more cojones and game than nearly everyone else on tour, as evidenced by his ranking.

^^it would be a laugh to see some actual seals on a tennis court (not dying ones though)..

although they wouldn't like the heat, at least no polar bears would be around to give them any grief.

Gulbis packs it in v. Querrey in straights. BTW, the Theim kid is ok. Good serve. Lovely one-handed BH. He was well behind in the first but hung with Anderson, who now just took the first.

OK before I get corrected here: Falla - Wawrinka is a match with a lot of great points!

I don't know what it is with this match-up, but especially Falla is making Wawrinka hit some amazing shots in pretty crazy rallies.

Falla takes the third in a tie-break, despite Wawrinka being significantly the better player. Overall points 106- 89 (42 winners for Wawrinka).

He is one of the most painful "should I or shouldn't I" picks out there, as he almost always seems to do the opposite of what you chose. :s

I see your points Susan, and that may well be why some use the term. I just get tired of calling him Farquaad, or the "Little engine that could". To me, a ferret is a tenacious little fella that digs in and holds his ground. They're quick and hard to pin down.

While I wouldn't keep them as pets, there are many who like them and do. My friends swear by them and whenever I go over to visit = one will often fall asleep on my shoulder and the other curled up in the crook of my arm. They are intelligent, inquisitive and friendly.

David's not my favorite player, but I don't dislike him and have always admired his tenacity and heart.

edit: One last thought. While it seems the illustrator for Shrek, must have drawn his face for Lord Farquaad from one of David's pictures - Farquaad's character is a scheming, little bastard devoid of courage or any real moral fiber. That glaring dissimilarity always bothered me.

So what about these 'young guns':

- Damir Džumhur (21 year old Bosnian, reached the third round to face Berdych)
- 17 year old Thanasi Kokkinakis who will be destroyed by Nadal tomorrow

Any potential?
