The top seeds should go through! ( hopefully)
Swaitek (2) Rybakina (6) plays a child again for the 2nd time, Paolini (4), Navvaro (8) hopefully got the monkey off her back, winning in 3 tights sets in her first match, Collins (10), Kasatkina (9)
Raducanu v Anisimova they meet for the first time, Emma got away with a win in her first match, it was Ugly, committing 15 DFs, she will have to watch her serve against Amanda, or she will be shown the door.,Amanda is a big ball striker!

10 seeded Danielle Collins, 2022 runners-up is through in three sets she prevailed against rising australian Destanee Aiava. But the crowds was booing and jeering her in the third (which was what was shown here tonight on Channel 9).

What happened ???

I'm in shock !!!

After the match she very sarcastic-like was blowing kisses to the partisan crowd (put it mildly) and even tapped her butt (as if to say, "Kiss my.... " well you know).

Did the match get shown in full over there in the USA?

What did she do to fire up the crowd?

here are the highlights. Sad to see the level of disrespect directed at the american who was a 2022 finalist.

Nothing new here. This is Danielle being Danielle. She has a love/hate relationship w/ most crowds but especially those in Oz.

My gut tells me this will be it for Danielle if she makes a deep run at the Australian Open, like in 2022. I think Danielle is playing because she wants to end her career on her terms and on a more positive note. She would have not had that with a half-baked try at the US Open, when she was clearly not healthy.

I wasn't aware of that. Found this article by James Dampney who says there was heckling going on throughout the match...

The 31-year-old had a variety of issues during the 2 hour, 25 minute contest, berating a courtside camera operator and later telling the crowd to “shut up” after a missed serve as the vocal home crowd got firmly under her skin.

The 10th seed then ensured she copped the full hatred of the majority of the crowd after sealing match point.

Blowing kisses, winking and repeatedly exclaiming “how about that” towards the crowd, Collins even kissed her hand and touched her butt in the direction of the stands after shaking the umpire’s hands.

“She’s giving it to the crowd, which won’t be taken too well in these parts,” commentator Dave Basheer said on Stan Sports.

Collins then took the microphone from the on-court interviewer as boos rained down on her.

“Yeah, I mean, Destanee,” she began, before changing tack. “You know I was thinking during the match, I was like ‘hmm, if I’m out here I may as well just take that big, fat pay cheque’.

“Coco (Vandeweghe) and I just love a five-star vacation, so part of that cheque is going to go towards that, so thank you guys.”

Vandeweghe, a former tennis player herself, was in Collins’ team box for the match.

The Tennis Australia organizers should be, for a start, ban alcohol being served ASAP !!!

The unhealthy atmosphere brought on by having booze in your system might be OK and acceptable in Football, Baseball and other sports but not this one.

And baring in mind, australian crowds used to be very fair to overseas players even during the old Fed cup and Davis Cup home ties.

Next, any spectator found to be unruly should be thrown out of the stadiums.

Danielle's Presser. Good to see she was able to calm down very well but does repeat her "they pay my bills" sarcasm backhander to the "Cool environment (aussie public)", Bless her

Am looking forward to her next round versus Madison, whether C 9 shows it here in full or not at all is another thing:thinking-face:
