He could have taken a cue from Danielle Collins when the same reporter called her a "brat" and she simply diffused the situation but turning it back on him and making a joke. But Novak has to turn it into an international incident. @Fiero425: Novak IS thin-skinned. And it is completely risible for you to say he was being bullied. He is the 800-pound gorilla in tennis, and, as with many situations, rather than ignore it, or shake it off, he chooses to fan the flames. He just likes the drama and the attention, and the opportunity to sing the "woe is me" song.
Agree 100% as I said he created this drama, we have seen this before from him. also just before he has to play his QF match? timing? he is a Master of Drama full stop, and it is pathetic for a 37 year old man, still wanting and craving attention!

Great positives from Michelson and Tien making the 2nd week of a major.at ages 20 and 19 respectively.
Q Tien jumps 41 spots as the move of the week to 80! after 3 qualifying rounds, then 4 rounds of 5 sets tennis he's put in the most traction of any player at the AO.
Alex Michelson attributed his slow start to changing conditions, playing at night were the balls are heavier and a new stadium RLA wasnt able to reset his feet properly in his match against De Minaur, still he was super happy to make it into week 2. Alex rises to a career high of 36 already.

I agree: Tien and Michelsen have nothing to be ashamed about. And really, I think we've seen some nice signs from other young uns: Fonseca, Mensik, Rune.

The pups are almost entirely out. 21st century babies:

1R - Baez, Perricard, Shang
2R - Korda, Auger-Aliassime, Fonseca
3R - Musetti, Fils, Mensik
4R - Draper, Rune, Michelsen, Tien

Still in: Sinner, Shelton, Alcaraz

Just watching a replay of Sinner - Rune. How was it possible for Sinner to take so long MTO outside of the court? Did he combine 2 MTOs in one? Time since last point was around 11 minutes when he came back on the court.

Just curious. Anyway, looks like Rune missed some good chances for an early break up in 3rd and the match slowly slipped away from him.
Yeah, something like this cannot happen, especially when Sinner is under the microscope for his alleged doping.

If you actually watched the match? I didnt think so? Jannik was shaking, the heat factor, I thought at one stage he would retire, he was taken off court after the physio checked him and the doctor, a lot of players go off court for treatment, what has that got to do with alleged doping? honestly! what a rubbish comment!
Jannik was in charge of the match, from the 1st set , Rune only broke because, Jannik could not move to his left if you watched the match, won the 2nd set 63,after his treatment off court, he battled back and improved, Rune also took a MTO just when Jannik was going to serve for the 3rd set? that is okay though lol! Jannik too good for Rune in the 4th set won it 62.
I forgot to add Jannik decided to break the net on purpose there was another delay of course that probably had something to do with his Alleged Doping according to you ! as both players had to leave the court while they fixed it lol!

Hmmm, seems some geniuses out here want to elevate Sinner to GOAT status already! Yeah, right! I say he'll break down long before making any headway in that direction! This is just the calm after the Big 3 have transitioned off the tour! Give it a couple more years B4 anointing the next great player! Jannik & Carlos are obviously leading the way, but so many players have a great week, then are forced to retire the next! The game has seriously changed to its detriment IMO! :astonished-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::angry-face::yawningface:

The 93.6% number is impressive, but we're talking a very small sample size. Jannik between #1 on June 10th of last year, which means we're talking about10 events and 47 matches (44-3).

For comparison's sake:

Roger Federer:
1st 47 matches at #1: 43-4 (91.5%)
237 weeks at #1 (Feb 2004 - Aug 2008): 355-36 (90.8%)

One thing I didn't realize (or forgot about) before doing that research is that Rafa didn't take over #1 at Wimbledon of 2008 - it wasn't until Roger went out in the first round of Canada, 2nd round of Cincy, and QF of Olympics that he lost the #1 spot.

It is also notable that of his last 8 matches as the #1, Roger lost half of them. Before losing to Rafa in the WImbledon final, he had been 351-32 (91.6%) since his reign began, 308-24 (92.8%) through 2007, and a ridiculous 252-15 (94.4%) through Dubai of 2007.

Let's take a look at Rafa and Novak.

Rafa:
1st 47 matches at #1: 41-6 (87.2%)
First #1 reign (Aug 2008 - July 2009): 56-8 (87.5%)

Novak:
1st 47 matches at #1: 40-7 (85.1%)
First #1 reign (July 2011 - July 2012): 63-12 (84%)

Neither were nearly as dominant as Roger or Jannik has been so far.

I realize it was a small sample, looking back at 2023 and in 2024, quite frankly I didnt think he would improve as much as he had, he is a hard worker, he has worked hard on the things in his game that needed improvement, he says still looking to improve, which is always a good sign going forward in his career

what was Rune's MTO for, do you know ?

I did not see ALL of the match. Were the players affected by heat-stress? Sinner, especially is fair-skinned fellow.

I think both players were affected by heat stress, they had long rallies, Rune is also fair skinned like Sinner. MTO for Holger was his knee

It's becoming a diplomatic, political farce now with the Tony Jones mocking serbian fans, who probably were australian born, with the Serbian embassy weighing-in.

Don't they have anything better to do such as running their country, aiding their people etc?

Yes Rune is, but it wasn't really a hot day in melbourne on monday arvo, maybe 29 degree day at best.

why can't these modern players learn to serve-volley more or try to get to the net, more? It would be to their advantage when you have to endure warm or hot conditions for three-plus hours!

Here in Sydney we are used to higher temps in our Summer, though they were playing in the middle of the day and the on court temp was probably higher

Yes, them too. Although i was so impressed with Coco's skill on one point. I posted it, bless her :clap::clap:

I'm resigned to the fact we will never see any regular serve-volley tennis but oh, it would be nice if these modern players could venture forward more in these baseline rallies and keep the points short, especially when you have to play on warmer days.

Coco has great volley skills why because she plays doubles which only improves your volley and net reflexes at the net, I will also add Alcaraz, for someone who is young he has excellent volley skills
The more variety in your game the better, these days it is still a baseliner game, still a player with good transition to the net can always end his/ her point at the net with a volley

Tommy Paul WTH!
Tommy Paul was in great shape serving at 6-5, 40-30 but Zverev storms back, taking 10 of the next 11 points to win in a TB 76(1)
Where is Taylor Fritz when you need him!
Geez Tommy serving for the 2nd set 5-3 and broken to love,!
Another TB with Zverev winning 76(0) this is totally embarrassing, Tommy Paul will enter the Top Ten for the first time in his career, he needs a New Brain ASAP
