Well they could toss a coin to see who played first if the best of 5 happened in GS or whoever gets the short straw if they want to do the straw thingy :)
Or they could alternate, which I'd be fine with. They could also alternate who plays finals on Saturday and who plays finals on Sunday. :)

Just tuning into the Tsitsipas match against LL Bergs
Out of the blue Stef has produced a 'set up serve" ? Robbie Koening said he must be protecting his back
I hope I didn't pick Tsitsipas to go deep, then. :(

LL Bergs has a great bhand he has 2 BPs the first of the match by either player
Stef bh finds the net
Bergs breaks and will serve for the 1st set 6-5
Finally with an Ace Bergs wins the 1st set 75, there were some tricky moments in his service game

Wawrinka v Mannarino looks tight. My TV is showing Ben Shelton, not surprisingly. The surprising part is that it's not midnight and ESPN deigned to put on tennis, at all.

Stef is now changing his serve from the Step Up to Platform serve, going back and forwards, he really his protecting his back
Both my commies on the match think the same way Robbie K and Mark P
Sef has a break in the 2nd set leading 3-1 and finally holds leading 4-1
Stef wins the 2nd set 61, Bergs too many UFE and needs to be more patient and looks to be out of energy

Jarry loss was a surprise to me. Big win for the Italian Cobolli.

LL Bergs dosent want to compete, any more, he is doing drop shots from the baseline, not once by twice
Stef gets the double break in the 3rd set, this match is over Red Rover for the LL Bergs, his team really has to work on his physical ability
It is not that hot in Melbourne today btw. Bergs has called for a trainer and a doctor
Stef wins the 3rd set 61 and now leads Bergs 2 sets to 1
I am over this match and Bergs who dosent want to compete has had the trainer and doctor out, changed his clothes etc, I mean he came into this match as a LL you would think he would compete more he is on Rod Laver Arena the main court, quite frankly I feel for the fans who have paid good money, if he was that sick etc he should have withdrawn. I am going to watch a womens match
Stef wins 57 61 61 63

I think they did that because Coco, Seb & Ben were playing today.

Personally, I'd like to see a hybrid in the men's game at the slams. That is, if a player wins the first two sets, the match is over. Otherwise (if the players split the first two sets), it becomes a Bo5.

The women's game should stay Bo3 at the slams.

Hatah's gonna hate! Doesn't that sound kind of sad & pathetic conspiring to overcome an old man of 36+? B/c the man has managed his playing time better than kiddies, you want to put the thumb on the scale to help overcome The GOAT! BO3 is one of the ways you can get your way I guess! Most of Novak's bad losses in Davis Cup, United Cup, & The Olympics occurred as a result of abbr. matches, BO3! All I can do is SMH! Try again! Novak will be long gone by the time any changes can occur to help the hatah's out there! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face: :fearful-face:
Hey, cool it.

It's just a tennis forum. Far out !

and if it were best of three set match it would have put him (and the crowds) out of his misery.

Margaret, this player "Bergs" came through the qualifiers, correct? And there they play BO3. So in the opening round the boy wasn't experienced to play or sustain competitive tennis after he taken the first set. Therefore Tsitsipas who's played at more GS held a decided advantage. Meanwhile the crowds had to endure fairly sub-standard tennis by "Bergs" in the second, third and half of the fourth, that's not a good look is it, particularly, as you say for the crowds who paid top dollars? Today's men's tennis there is only the slams that are BO5 all the way. Because of the modern game, mostly baseliners, lack of serve and volleying, and regular (sometime questionable) medical time outs, players leaving the courts for bathroom break, etc are now the norm, to me it makes sense for B03, maybe up to the semifinals rounds.

Aside time. Former 4 times champion, Andre Agassi is here at the AO. They showed him being interviewed on saturday. The next day Channel 9 TV has been airing Agassi's Oz Open TV commercials for UBER ! Cool add too. Are these being shown in the US ? I posted one. Whether it works outside of AU is another thing.

From what I heard about Bergs he has always had a problem physically, regardless if he came through qualifers at the AO, this is an area he needs to be stronger in or he wont improve his ranking, he gave up,quite frankly it was embarrassing, even my commies on the match thought the same.
Well we will have to agree to disagree on changing slams to 3 sets, for the men, if that ever happened I wont be watching tennis.

Margaret, another option i guess would be for the Qualifiers, to make these young guns to play Best of Five in order to get them match-hardened and prepared for the Grand Slams. Because the way it seems to me, you still going to see, you are going to see, more often than not, some really poor tennis from players who aren't used to the sustaining their games for best of five versus the experienced players like Tsitsipas.
