If you were coaching Holger Rune, how would you get out his potential at the slams? He performs well in the lower tiered events, like 250s and Masters. when it comes to the slams, however, he seems to bow out in the early rounds.

He reached the quarter final of both Wimbledon and the FO and he’s won a masters series event, beating Novak in the final. Bear in mind he’s young, and he ought not to be saddled with anyone else’s idea of a good trajectory, I think he’s doing great. Far ahead, I might say, of Tiafoe, who you used to think would have a slam by now.

I think Holger needs to bulk up his game a little and also remember, you get left behind in tennis if you stay the same. He’s got a wonderful spiteful attitude but I always wondered if that’s enough. You need outsized ambition too, if you’re going to be a slam champion…

Do you think he’ll stay the course? Make a career of it? I watch him sometimes and wonder if he will pack it up and do something else.

I never thought of that, what makes you think that?

Holger's fhand needs more weight behind it for starters, I have always said that, and spin, remember he is 20, I also think he needs more strength training, especially if he want to go the distance in GS at the best of 5., also at times in matches he does lose focus

Just finished watched Shelton v Mannarino,
I have been calling for Ben to get another coach, since last year, his return game is one an area of his game that needs attention, he has to stop playing high risky shots returns, and needs to play 'percentage tennis' when it is needed, I knew this would be a tricky match as Mannarino is a tricky player and has been playing good ball of late.

I just hope Mannarino is clean, but I can't help but to be highly suspicious about his bump in performance at this advanced age.

I’ve watched Holger a lot these past two years… big wins, big letdowns, niggling injuries. Lately, for no visible reason, I’ve wondered if this is really what he wants to do. Agassi went through that for a few years and came back stronger. Rune has great potential. I hope he’s around for a long time.

Finished watching high lights of HD with a good win over Korda winning in straight sets, he kept his focus on the match
HD reached the AO R4 for the 4th time out of the last 5 years.
Forgot to add, he is also a protector of our insects on court at the AO :) good to see.

Please stop with the crap and stop being a sore loser for starters!.
I'm not being a sore loser. I gave credit to Mannarino for the win. He played his heart out and deserved the win. I really do hope he is clean, but I'm suspicious about how quickly he was able to recover from the Wimbledon injury and not only that, perform at a much improved level at ages 34 and 35. Serena (probably the next greatest women's player after Navratilova) suffered a similar injury, and it took her nearly a year to come back, and she was a shell of the player that dominated the WTA for over 20 years.

My suspicions on Mannarino has nothing to do with the result of the match. If Ben had pulled it out, I'd still be suspicious about Mannarino. Players don't get much better at 34-35 years old, especially after a severe injury. (Look at how long Rafa is taking to recover from his latest injuries, and he's one of the greatest players of all-time.)

When you take off your Rose Coloured Ben Shelton Glasses and actually see why Ben lost maybe then we can talk about why?
I have not interested in talking to anyone when they bring up " I hope he is clean' that is just a sore loser talking and troll like posting
I like others have said at TF Ben needs a proper coach, not his father, return game, his high risk shots, balance and stop carrying on like a Showman when he dosent need to., he needs at time to play the percentages.
Mannarino deserved his win, end of story!

That’s interesting. There’s bound to be players where this happens. Mashed me wonder if Boris is the best coach for him, or the worst. Boris began to wander a little when he was young, maybe he’ll sing like Johnny Cash, son, don’t do what daddy done!

Ben lost for the same reason he did last week against Taro Daniel. The more experienced opponent just played better, especially in the clutch points, than Ben. That happens in tennis. These losses could be good for Ben in the long run, if he learns from them and makes the correct adjustments.
