Carlos has to improve his BP stat,, the TB was competitive between Carlos and Ritchie
He also needs to venture forward more into the net during some of these baseline duals. Like he done when winning Wimbledon and US Opens.

Margaret, i didn't see the second and third sets but have seen the edited online highlights. Gasquet really matched him in the first set, striking some magnificent backhand winners as i recall.

Agree the best I have seen Ritchie play in the 1st set that went to a TB, it is also Carlos first match he didnt play last year due to a leg injury, still he is one of my favorite younger players, he does have a 'complete game' for someone so young, though I must admit at times last year he was over doing the drop shots, and players were getting used to them, though he is an 'instinctive volley player' using the 'surprise volley' sometimes is a better choice, still he does have a great tool box and I enjoy watching him play.

Aahh wonderful news, Margaret. Jannik's safely thru. Good confidence builder for him when it gets to the business end of the championship.

I am now watching De Minaur v my Italian youngster Arnaldi, who is down a break, needs control in his game, though I like the way he plays

Now I must ask, did Carlos after he won the first set versus Richard, start to grow in confidence and avoided protracted baseline exchanges , by coming to the net in the second and third sets? Please tell me he did so. As i said, i did not stay up to watch after he won the tiebreak, but guessed that he would win it in straight.

yeah but they just won the Davis Cup ! And Janick's going to win a GS at some point this year, possibly the AO. But still I wanna see one of these aussie boys , either Alex or adelaide's own Thanasi - give a good account of themselves in their national championship.

I have to 'mute' Jim Courier, he has been commentating at the AO for too long we need to hear new voices and be more objective about players he is soo bias at times with his fav players,

I have always like Thanasi, shame with all the injuries and illness that have kept him off the court for many years, he has a fine game especially on HC, de Minaur does well with the limited weapons he has. I dont want to upset you Vince I just find Alex annoying :)

Bubble Head Arnaldi
You have to be willing to 'grind' out points in a tennis game at times, especially against a player like Alex, you just gave De Minaur the break, early in the 2nd set, also Control, I know is something you need to learn ASAP
