I wish I had found the espn site on time. I am finding it now. In India, my country, only the second session is being telecast for today. Who knows if this will continue on sony espn HD. So, I tried youtube live vidoes but couldn't find it. Now, I am frustrated to find espn.in when match is already over.

I guess Roger must have been atleast decent to have beaten Sock in straight sets. I am surprised to read comments here. Let me see the highlights.

Sock won 59% on 2nd serve and Fed won 65%. Tough to break with those numbers. Roger has been tremendous on 2nd serve return all year so hopefully just a blip.

If it has been an average day, I think it's a good sign that he won against a recent masters champion in straights with this kind of play.

For sure. It could well be that Sock was playing with confidence as well. But Roger was just there waiting for him to miss. He did say in the on court interview that he was just trying to keep the ball in most of the time, so perhaps part of it was just getting used to the court speed and bounce

Yeah I'd say Feds backhand looked really good but he wasn't going after the forehand at all from what I saw. Sock made a lot of comebacks last week so he was probably still playing more loose in the big moments than we are used to seeing.

Yes, Roger's aggresive play at Basel like courts couldn't have been executed in the same manner here right away. This court doesn't support the same thing. It has to be a bit more waiting time and loading time. A bit more power into the shots and he could be using some angles here I'd guess.

I am glad Roger finished it in two sets. After wasting 5 break points (like the pre 2017 Roger), I was worried whether this will go the distance. As all of us know, winning efficiently matters in WTF.

I did not expect an easier win than this today, with Roger coming back after two weeks with some minor rust and Sock playing with his new found mojo. We can only expect that Federer will get betterer as the event progresses.

The second match will be the toughest as they will pair Roger with the winner of Sasha/Cilic in that match. However, that match is likely to be an evening match, in which case I won't be able to watch it live.

After all this time on the tour, I was beginning to think he had some problems! He has been on the tour, single-mindedly playing tennis since he was 15! He probably wasn't one of those people who had a tutor in his entourage!  :cuckoo:

What a coincidence that I was thinking if you had a tutor or finished the High School because your comments say the opposite :cuckoo:eek:_O:p

Well I think it's gotten a lot better this year. I had a zinger sent my way by @Moxie when I made fun of his English earlier this year. If I remember right she asked how my Spanish was :)

I studied Latin in HS and picked up a little German when I was running with a crowd after college! My college room mate studied Russian in his freshman year! I can only remember they have 6 extra characters in their alphabet!

To have a strong accent doesn’t mean that you don’t talk good the language. My brother in law talks 5 different languages very fluid with a strong accent which is much better than to talk only one

I did Latin in HS too. Wish I had done more languages in high school and college. That's the age to learn languages, my best friend learned Chinese around them and was completely fluent after a few years. Chess was my "language" after I learned how to play in HS
