Dunno Emma, I'd subscribe to GSM's view. August highlighted issues with everyone's weaker surfaces.. Fed on clay, Nadal on faster courts, Murray on clay with the proviso Novak is proficient on all, on average above the others. It might be worth remembering Federer and Nadal have both won the career grand slam.

That is the view now but since when the future is solely dependent on the past? AS I see it, everything is subject to change and will change. Heck, I've come across a lot of people who were more than sure Andy would never win a Slam. Clearly they couldn't have been any more wrong.

Murray's weakest surface is clay but we should also keep in mind that his priorities had always been different and it was never clay. In fact, it was probably his least interest. I agree though that his surface does not come naturally to him but hey, as good as Nole is on 'all surface', he has yet to beat Nadal at RG - got beaten twice instead. Not to mention, Federer got beaten a few times as well. So why Murray should even bother? Not at least when Nadal is around and still feeling strong. But who is to say all these clay tournaments won't be up for grab when Nadal slows down significantly which can happen in a year or two?

I guess it depends what you expect from him. He'll likely add to his tally of majors.. but a long term dominant number one? I think he'll make #1 at some point, but don't expect him to be ruling the position for any length of time like a Federer or a Sampras.

..and he doesn't really need to...sometimes we get spoiled and ask too much. Just enjoy the successes.

Truth be told, I expect nothing from him but at the same time, I can't say I know that he won't be No. 1 for a long time or that he won't win this number of Slams. Because I simply don't know so I am not ruling any possibilities out.

But yes, it's very good to see him happy. He's done himself proud and it's time he starts enjoying the tour and doesn't feel obligated to do anything on demand.

andy does not have to be a star on clay but he will probably do a little bit better there in 2014. he was hampered a bit by a bad back this year.

all andy has to do is win the u.s. open--- which he is going to--- then set his sights on doing some monster damage at the Australian open if possible.

I believe he defends his wimby crown next year.

he will just take it one step at a time. first he needs 2 more slams. 2 out of the next 4 will do but the next one is absolutely essential for him.

his goal has to be to overtake nole first and foremost. clay can wait.

All I have to say on this subject, when Novak is playing well, he is beating Andy Murray on HC. He will not just contemplate from here on, how Andy snatches all the titles you 'assume" he'll win.
And by the way, I thought you are a Nadal fan.Have you just given up on him because of his Wimbledon 'great" performances lately?

I am a nadal, andy, and roger fan but I am a bigger fan of clay court tennis and the sport.

andy said just the other day that he will just try to win another slam or 2 and not worry about being #1.

I think that is brilliant. he keeps the pressure off.

he is a bright chap. he knows he has nole`s number if he defends his crown at the u.s. open. and I happen to think he has that number already.

that is good enough for now for him. he will just take it one step at a time.

like baron britbox says, #1 will happen for andy at some point. we just don't know how long it will last.

the sport is demanding and injuries play a part.

Samson, I think your bet was better in your past life.

I mean guy beats half dead Fed to win Olympic gold and half dead No1e to win Wimbledon and suddenly he is the King of grass (coincidentally or not, on both occasions his opponents in finals were tired in semis by a match better grass court player - Del Potro).

So what do you think, how many more times something like that can happen to Murray and is that just enough to become King of tennis? I don't think it is.

I seem to remember Murray beating a full of life Nole at the Olympics semi in straight sets just the year prior?

And why was Nole half dead? Andy played a 5 setter against Verdasco in the qtr where he was in fact 2 sets to love down. And then he played another 4 sets vs Janowicz. That's 9 sets as opposed to Nole's 8 sets (3 sets vs Berdych and 5 against Delpo). So I as I see it, Murray played 1 more sets than Nole in the qtr and semi. So why should Nole be half dead and Andy should be full fresh? what other excuses do you have?

actually nole had declared that he was fresh and feeling good before that final. he had the easiest route to the final.

nole made the same bold statement before his semi against the clay warrior at RG:

he said he was going to win and that he was ready to play for 6 hours.

nole is the world`s best player. he is also the fittest man in the sport.

andy took his will away at Wimbledon. that is what happened.

if you want to break a man then you start by taking his will and his spirit away.

Hey nice to meet you, glad to see that Murray finally has some fans. For years we had Iona only and no one was surprised.

Yes, Murray bet No1e at the Olympics, i didn't say that he didn't but then he had Federer exhausted after the semi with Delpotro. Seems that Delpo sets those titles nicely for him.

I think that you almost answered yourself your question why No1e was exhausted in the Wimbledon final and that is because his semifinal was extremely hard while Murray's was easiest possible. Why do you think the Fang beat the player 100 times better than himself?

who on earth is 100 times better than Andy? we know it can't be Djoker, since Andy actually has his number at majors for a year now.

andy`s stock took a small hit today but no worries.

he is a lot tougher at slams and that is what counts. now he just needs 3-4 matches in cincy and then he will be good to go.

he will gather momentum on the go and on the run at flushing meadows.

well only the biggest predictions matter.

they are all vulnerable in best of 3 sets foremats. some more so than the others.

and the big predictions said:

1. andy would win the last u.s. open and he did
2. roger would win the wimby in 2012. he did that.
3. roger would win Dubai, indian wells, and a few others events in 2012. he did that.

4. andy would win this last Wimbledon and he did.
5. andy will win the u.s. open coming up in a few days.
6. andy will win the next wimby in 2014.

7. nadal would win RG at 55% capacity in 2013 and he did.

we call these all well in advance at the castle.

The majority of your predictions were never made public, on any forums in the past. You used to be a Rafa promoter exclusively, now you hop on the Murray bandwagon and make me believe that in the past you predicted a Roger win?

If your imaginary "I told you so" predictions make you happy, then good for you!

Well actually they were. I can even bring in the people who will attest to that but I am not going to bother.

I am not here to convince you.

It is rapidly becoming clear to me that you are looking for a confrontation of some sort.

My suggestion: grow the forum and facilitate discussions.

Saying something irresponsible about my jumping on a Murray bandwagon is not cool.

You are better than that.

I am now picking nole to win Montreal.

After Andy he is best hard courter out there.

That is called being objective.

Help grow the forum. Going after a tennis frontier family member does not reflect well on us.

Lets get along and go along.

Go ask javi and masterclass at the castle about my predictions if you have any lingering doubts.

You just saw my predictions. That is exactly the way I called it and exactly the way it happened.

I don't jump on any bandwagons. Not my style.
