I have to say, I hope Cilic doesn't win it by default. I'd love to see Feli Lopez heft it, but he has a way of blowing it at the last minute.
Murray is not injured, he played well at RG. He is just not up to his regular standard.

Is it just me or you only hear about Muller during grass court season.
It is you LOL
Muller never passed beyond R3 at Wimbledon, he had overall better results on HC than on grass untill this year.

My point was that he was sick, then injured, early in the season. I think it was a bad start for his first year as #1. That was by way of countering Front, who was slagging him off for his year so far.

I'm no Murray fan but have often felt sorry for him, hyped up massively by our media then shot down whenever he looses. I think Mac's comments this week upset him. I think too he has been slated for accepting a peerage - we've just had another batch of them and the issues have resurfaced. Our honours system here is widely discredited. Mentally he has always been vulnerable and things get to him.

Health wise both shingles and tennis elbow can drag on even when mostly healed. And he looked grey and exhausted at Queen's. I know they play in hot climates all the time but it is unusually hot here and the air quality in London is dreadful. Queen's is not far from the centre, highly polluted. I think the fact that he thought he had and easy match then had to play a tough Aussie rocked him a bit too.

And Feli continues advancing, that serve is gold and it seems he is doing more effort to play well in spite at his mistakes playing his last final, he should keep it in his mind

He's been rubbish well before getting shingles and Carol was defending his crap results claiming he's still sick and injured, neither of which is the case. I said he's an embarrassment for a world number 1 and he is.

That said, he did better than expected at RG.

Even though Andy was rubbish from the beginning of this year, as he reached SF at RG, I thought he has found his groove and would be primed to do well at Wimbledon. However, his performance at Queens was disappointing.

You would do well to read Mary's very compassionate post of the topic above. It's very likely he had shingles at the AO, or at least straight after, and then tennis elbow. Both of which things gave him a terrible running start to the year. That with the pressure, and heading into the clay, he didn't have much chance to make a great show of his year, though, as you said, he did make something of RG. You'll be as hard on him as you like...I can't make a generous person out of you...but there are reasons that he had such a bad start.

I'm actually a very generous person but I call it how it is when it comes to tennis results. At the AO he simply wasn't prepared for a S&V masterclass so Zverev caught him off guard. Same thing happened to Federer at Wimbledon 2013 against Stakhovsky. No need for people to make lame excuses for either loss. Murray will still be a top contender at Wimbledon as he has 5 sets to keep his slop in check and will therefore be harder to beat.

For me tennis is more interesting if I see the player as a real person who will be influenced and affected by a whole lot of factors, some of which we can be aware of, some we won't ever know about. Otherwise I might as well play solitaire! It's how a player handles their personal pressures that makes it so fascinating and its one of the few sports where individual responses are very visible. If we just look at results we are missing a lot of the complexity of the game.

I don't want to get off topic but I see the same in snooker which is big here in the UK. Several players have fascinating stories behind them the prime example being Ronnie O'Sullivan who has battled through dreadful circumstances including a father imprisoned for murder, drug addiction and depression to be arguably the most skilled player ever.

It's not about making lame excuses, it's about being interested enough in the person to give a little thought to reasons for their results.

Feli should be able to take out Berdych who isnt hasn't won anything recently of significance. Feli will have issues vs Grigor is a better mover.

I don't know what you mean about "lame excuses" for Federer's loss to Stakhovsky in 2013. Roger had a tooth ache, a migraine, a cold, was up all night with sick kids AND had an argument with Mirka. Those are NOT "lame excuses..." :lol6:

This might be true, but he is a serve and volley / offensive player. Let's not forget he was between challengers and atp events for years and now in the past two years has really improved in terms of results. I've always liked him.
