Fonseca on a mission to sweep a 3rd Argentinian this week. Let's see if he has gas left. He raised his level end of 2nd set.

I have a dodgy link to Fonseca's match, good to see he has reset his game after the 1st set, winning the 2nd set 64 raising his level towards the end

Gotta love this kid, left his heart on the court today (and so did Navone, kudos to him too). Crazy match, they both saved MPs with gutsy BH DTL winners. 2 warriors giving all they got, this is tennis. Winning these kind of matches for Fonseca means even more considering his level was not good and he struggled, but kid found a way. I think it's an amazing win for him, biggest this week.

I am speechless. I cannot even begin to understand how the hell he turned that match around. Navone never let go, both kept fighting, Fonseca had a lot of moments when he seemed out of gas and out of sorts, but he never let go nonetheless.

If winning when you are not playing your best is what defines great champions, this kid will be number #1. He started the match very, very badly. Missing just about everything, bad decisions, you name it. Like yesterday, he got progressively better, but never close to that crazy level he sometimes shows. Only in the last couple of games, maybe. Saved match points on his serve, played super well when Navone was serving for the match, lost two match points but kept his head in place. Also, the matched was filled with bad bounces, balls slipping on the wet lines, super near misses, net cords, even a loud thunder during a point. All the things that could derail a mentally weak player. And both stayed there.

As @don_fabio said, kudos to both.

And, again, in Argentina against an Argentinian, a top 50 clay courter, on a wet, slow court at sea level. The worst possible conditions to him. Beyond amazing.

It was a great fight.

Fonseca showed he has that higher gear and ability to adjust. He was chasing that break of serve since the beginning of the 3rd and refused to give up. He is naturally very agressive player, but towards the end of the 3rd set he has become more patient and he waited for his opportunities before pulling the trigger. It paid off big.

We keep waiting for Rune to do something big, but he can't even become a reliable player to go far in the tournaments. He had a few good runs here and there since 2022, but he doesn't look like he developed as a player at all. I mean I like his game, but it's still messy. He is struggling to put it all together, lot's of ups and downs during the match. Player like him need to be able to beat lower quality opponents even on the bad day. Not to take anything away from Navone who played great yesterday.
Yeah he was nasty as well, and I liked that, but his confidence isn’t the same, his intensity. Shuffling coaches like crazy. The seasons where he ought to have made the great leap have been barren, more or less. I liked him when he was arrogant and brattish, but note he’s just nondescript..

Wow, what an impressive win. As I think mrzz said, winning a match like this is what makes a champion. We know the shots are there, but his mentality is beyond impressive.
