Jon Wertheim linked to this in his recent mailbag. I had realized how much pain Juan Martín del Potro lives with. It's really very sad.

I feel fortunate that I didn't have as many problems as some w/ aches & pains! I had a little tennis elbow back in the 70's, pulled a stomach muscle or 3 over-servng, a shoulder ache here & there, w/ the most annoying issue getting cramps (Charlie-horse) due to dehyration! :anxious-face-with-sweat: :ambulance:

I didnt realize how much pain Del Potro still suffers to this very day, hopefully he can find a better pain management program in the future, sad way to end a tennis career

I got some of @the AntiPusher's yellow mustard for the cramps. It seems to help! :face-with-tears-of-joy: Anyway, you are lucky not to have more long-term affects, since you seemed to play a lot of serious tennis for a long time. But you didn't hit a FH like JMDP, I dare to guess. But it's bad luck on him, too.

ATP Coach of the Year ( voted by fellow ATP coaches) is Michael Russell, after guiding Taylor Fritz to the USO final, and a career best high of No 4 ( highest year end finish by an American in the ATP rankings since James Blake in 2006).
Russell is the first American man to win the ATP Coach of the Year Award in the nine years since the tour added the distinction to its year end awards

Lucas Pouille receives the French wild card for the AO, but he will most likely not need it, as he is the second alternate at the moment.
Personally I hope they end up giving it to Gasquet to play one last AO.

Fils, top seed in the NEXT GEN Finals, scored an impressive win against Mensik 4-2, 4-3(4) 4-2, he bounced back quickly from his 5 set defeat to Joao Fonseca yesterday ( Wednesday).
Jakub Mensik was asked to do an anti- doping test during the match, not before, not after but right in the middle of the match, when he went for a toilet break
The umpire said this should not have happened - mid match. I am at a loss for words!!!!!

Fonseca d Tien 4-0, 4-0, 1-4, 4-2, one of the youngest ever players to qualify for the event, to reach the SFs as the Blue Group Winner
Mensik is eliminated.
Tien vs Fils tomorrow for 2nd place

Rafa Nadal will arrive in Jeddah on Friday to visit NEXT GEB ATP Finals. As Saudi Tennis Federation Ambassador he will spend two days and will also participate on various meetings in schools and tennis clubs

That seems outrageous, testing Mensik mid-match. Fils looked good today, as did Fonseca. Only saw the end of Michelson.

TC were discussing why they made Mensik mid match have a testing, commentators could not believe they made Mensik have a testing mid match, before or after a match is reasonable, I feel the umpire should take this further and ask why mid match, even he said it was not reasonable.
Fils did look better today in his match, Fonseca is just great to watch when he plays at this level, his fhand was on fire in the match
