Pete’s nickname was Pistol, but nowadays it could be The Underrated! I still haven’t seen a better performance on a tennis court than his 1999 Wimbledon final win…

Pete's serve saved him again and again if he wasn't at his best! He was the last great player who used his serve as a real weapon! McEnroe won his championships the same way; esp. with what Bud Collins called his lefty delivery, "the can-opener!" Martina had the same advantage even though Evert was better from the ground! :shushing-face: :astonished-face::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Hey, the serve’s a shot! Counts even more than other shots if it’s a great one, because it notches up games. Credit where it’s due, bro. But Martina had a great net game. Her and Chrissy were like Borg and McEnroe, great contrasting stylists and different tempers. Martina was as great in the forecourt as anyone…

Without a doubt, Martina was the best in the forecourt! Her stab volleys were better than other players who were set and ready at the net! I remember matches against Graf and Seles where she had to deal with missiles coming at her and she flicked them away most of the time defeating both at one time or another until '93 against Seles indoors when she was approaching 40! No one else can say that even though Serena's trying to match it! I doubt she'll come back to win a double's major at 50 though! :fearful-face: :face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy::lol6::-)2

Martina was streets ahead of Evert on grass, apart from her killer serve and fhand, her volley play at the net outstanding
Martina also won from memory nine or ten Eastbourne titles her warm up tournament before Wimbledon

Evert was not better than Martina off the ground at Wimbledon ever!

Thanks you some people around here have poor memories regarding Martina, on grass she ruled over Evert period, her record on grass proves that.

Just a reminder draw ceremony tomorrow at 10am local time,
Unseeded players seeds will want to avoid in R1, Kyrgios, Murray, Goffin
Potential QF opponents for Novak and Rafa, Alcaraz, Berrettini, Hurkacz or FAA
Potential SF opponents for Novak and Rafa, Ruud ( scratches head I cant see that happening) or Tsitsipas
Goffin seems an odd mention, though he's a tricky player. I'm trying to think of all the ones who have featured in this grass portion: Marcos Giron fought very hard against Tsitsipas today. Otte had some good results. Van de Zandsculp? Maxime Cressy is an S&V guy. The English guy who has come out of nowhere: Pendrick? Cam Norrie, for sure. Also out of nowhere, Cerundolo had a good grass prep. RBA beat Medvedev today. (OMG, there has to be a meme of Meddie complaining about the crowd. It was so good.) Tiafoe. I'm not saying any of these are contenders, but is there a spoiler among them?

I mentioned my hubby's favorite player ever, Sampras and people come out of the woodwork lol!
Federer, Nadal when healthy, Novak and Sampras all moved beautifully on the grass at SW19.. I really like the newest camera when they're ground level, it really shows how these guys are like Gods playing a game that takes a lot of time to master.

What about the Englishman Draper, who has a solid game on the grass and has made the s/finals at Eastbourne

From memory, 3-all in the first, Pete serving at 0-40, bombs his way out of that game and five minutes later the match is over: 6-3, and up a break in the second, 5 games in a row that broke the back of it…
Brotha, that's 3 minutes longer that in actually it takes Sampras to complete his service game .

Also good addition. I think a few people have come out of the woodwork since we started back on grass. I'll mention Cressey again...he's on OG serve-and-volley man. Why not have a good grass season?

What's of the Red Baron's bandwagon? I'm surprised he isn't in a tournament this past week

I am interested to see if last year's s/finalist Hubi can go one better this year at Wimbledon
Shapo's game has gone AWOL at present
Can FAA whose game suits the grass make some noise at this year's Wimbledon
Impressed with Matteo's come back on grass, seeing he was out for months after having hand surgery

Forgot to mention, when Rafa was playing Matteo earlier on the centre court, he was attacking his fhand? interesting.
