I just googled and apparently COVID wasnt the reason why they are not using the old formula seeding at Wimbledon
Then is it just because it was ever stupid? Or they have just given up on the old grass calculator?

I think they have just given up on the old grass calculator
Because Roger isn't playing may be the best explanation. In hindsight I think they felt they were trying to provide an environment where they could increase the level of grass court competition. I get it. Just my opinion

2019 was the last time they used the "Wimbledon" seeding. I think after the 2020 tournament was cancelled they made a number of changes including getting rid of the seeding formula. I actually liked it, I thought it was good to reward lower ranked players who were grass court specialist's, that ranking boost could be the difference between making the draw or not. Due to the bans & injuries a lot of people are complaining about Ruud etc being seeded #3 this year. Well if the old seeding formula was in play Berrettini would be #3 seed... I liked the seeding formula as it was a unique thing. It's better to reward Berrettini who at seed #3 would most likely make SF instead Rudd will go out early giving Djokovic an easy SF opponent.

One hopefully good change they made this year is to allow practice on Centre Court + Court 1 etc before the tournament starts to wear in the court to hopefully stop some of the slips early on in the tournament, if it works that is a great idea.

The more I think about this years championship, the less enthused I feel about watching it. Apart from Novak and Rafa, I don’t see where a real contender is coming from. Novak is favourite, and if Rafa makes week 2, he’s a challenger. The challenger. But the rest? Impossible to see any of them as champion. This year.

Maybe Carlos in the future. Tsitsipas or Berretini this year, but only if they face each other in the final. Then one of them would have to win. In fact, that would be a final worth watching. It’d be entertaining. See how one of them loses it and the other reneges on the gift and tries to hand it back. There’ll be burly blokes along the way who’ll bomb down serves and cause some damage, then evaporate like a light mist in the first flush of sunlight .

I don’t remember a Wimbledon so lousily stacked with prospects, since last years…

I agree, it's the most boring of the slams these days. Even worse this year with a lot of players missing. I think you posted a stat about only 4 different players have won it in the last 20 years. It's about time Wimbledon had a new champion.

That’s it. Since 2002, only Roger, Rafa, Novak and Andy have won it. We used to say that Roger only beat weak opposition, and that was largely true, compared to the 80’s and 90’s. He stacked up a huge amount of slams by beating Gonzo, Baggy and Fozzy Bear. But it’s still true! Rafa has won 14 FO’s and Novak is near double digits in Australia.

I think the men’s game would benefit from a couple of huge upsets in the first week, even though above everything I want Rafa to win the cup. But the status quo is wiping everything else out, and it’s going to take a while for tennis to recover from this..

And right after Novak and Cilic too. As more players can practice in that court it would be much better

The same thing's happened to me with women's tennis ages ago! After Hingis and Henin retired I lost interest! It looked like the WTA might get my attention back with Osaka and Barty, but one is gone and the other a part time player due to physical or emotional reasons! I don't know so many of these players! The rankings have been all over the place with injuries and inconsistent results! Not sure how much I'll care after Novak retires even if I'm not that big a fan! Alcaraz might be the new blood to get me interested in tennis later, but we'll see! :astonished-face: :fearful-face::anxious-face-with-sweat::face-vomiting::facepalm:
