Here's the thing: If the players were truly upset about the banning of Russians/Belarusians and losing Wimbledon points, they would have really considered boycotting the event altogether.

In my opinion, there are NO true winners in Wimbledon's decision to ban Russians/Belarusians.

If the ATP did not do anything, then they will be criticized for not doing anything and/or for supporting the ban of Russians and Belarusians.

If the ATP did do something (such as this decision or freezing the points), then the lower ranked players will suffer.
This is Old News, regarding Wimbledon,it is set in stone, I dont know why anyone would bring it up now.

Look i get that there is no Solomonic solution, but say, try to get the upper hand through the media.

For example, Have all the players walk out on court with a saying such as “ I protest” emblazoned on their tennis whites.

DARE Wimbledon to ban all the players for doing this. Can you imagine having W kickout Nadal, Novak, etc

Wont solve anything but it beats 0 points for a tournament played for most sports fan to fathom.

I was just stating my opinion, nothing more.
I was not having a go at your opinion at all, I agree with it, though this has been discussed before, it was the poster who you replied to in the first place that brought it up.
I feel the most important step the ATP can do now is 'install their new so called harder stance' with players that abuse official, umpires, ball kids etc., which has now become a complete joke

The ATP is investigating Holger Rune for yelling gay slurs during a match on the recent ATP challenger tour in Italy
Rune screamed the word 'faggot' and gay pussy' multiple times after his opponent hit the ball out of bounds and then again after winning the point,
The ATP will not tolerate 'homophobic behavior' full stop.Rune has apologized after the incident.
I will post further news on this disgraceful incident when the ATP finishes their investigation.

I don’t know that I buy what he is selling about Casper Ruud. I feel like we would have heard about this type of behavior from other players if it was the case. Disrespect is earned just as much as respect, and I certainly feel if Casper did do such a thing it wouldn’t have been unprovoked. Does it say when this supposedly happened? I couldn’t gather from the article if this happened pre or post match. If it was post match, I could certainly understand more as Rune’s behavior on the court and that handshake at the net were rather poor.

I happen to agree with you, I have seen that article and just laughed out loud, like other journalists did the same It is complete rubbish.
Holger Rune has more to worry about now with the ATP investigating his Homophobic Outbusts.

Well I for one hope and pray he doesn't turn into a Wacky Nicky clone. Someone w/ immense talent, a short fuse, no discipline and no home training.

I have to rely two message to ,

“Well you have hit the nail on the head with that spoiled brat Holger Rune. We Norwegians have a way of dealing with teenaged ruffians who have no etiquette or manners. Methinks this tennis equivalent of Damien is the result of the overly permissive Danish school system as well as overindulgent parenting. Stern Discipline is what this incorrigible man-child needs.
Warmly,
a completely objective tennis fan
Christian Ruud

“I personally know little Holger as a kind and caring person without a mean bone in his body. We all have seen his sweet angelic face and I can attest to the sweetness of his soul too. It is so sad that unnamed people ( whose capital is Oslo incidentally) jealously malign, bash and disparage a boy who simply loves tennis and gives it his all.”
Sincerely,
An unbiased tennis observer
Aneke Rune

So for Wimbledon: No Medvedev, No Rublev, possibly but more than likely no Zverev. Anyone else potentially missing? I hear rumblings that possibly no Rafa if the foot is an issue.

Wimbledon just might look like an exhibition. It would be a prime opportunity for someone to step up and breakthrough it seems.

Cilic could be very dangerous.

Sir Andy's taking severe umbrage at such a statement! He says, "Wimbledon will never be just an exhibition!" The penalty was steep & will cost Novak his #1 ranking! Wimbledon has taken a stance which may not be fair, but there is a reason! Observing a war going on, they want to show support for Ukraine and its people! :shushing-face: :fearful-face::astonished-face::anxious-face-with-sweat::facepalm:

Amen to that! Its a discussion forum after all, isn’t it?
It is, and I for one am in favor of still discussing Wimbledon and its choice here, and including the ATP decision (and WTA, I think?) to remove the points, which you call, rightly, IMO, window-dressing. I don't think we've talked about it enough, or maybe I've just gotten behind with so much work. I don't even know what to say about all those players losing points they can't defend, including and esp. Novak, but it does really punish lower-ranked players, too. I do think players should boycott.

I feel anyone that thinks Wimbledon is just an exhibition this year because of ranking points are being frozen and missing the point
Wimbledon is far the most prestige GS tournament, holding the respective winners trophies for the men and the women is special.I have to agree with Martina N and said some the players comments about it being just an 'exhibition' is really below par.

What would that prove in the end if the players boycott?

But do you think that banning players in an individual sport is the way to do it? I don't. Pointless bandwagoning, if you ask me.

It would prove solidarity with their fellow Russian and Belarussian players. I think Wimbledon is wrong that excluding them makes any useful point. London/the UK has much more useful work to do by freezing the assets of the Russian oligarchs they have been sheltering for the past decade+. #hypocrisy
