It would prove solidarity with their fellow Russian and Belarussian players. I think Wimbledon is wrong that excluding them makes any useful point. London/the UK has much more useful work to do by freezing the assets of the Russian oligarchs they have been sheltering for the past decade+. #hypocrisy
I totally agree that Wimbledon should not have banned Russian and Belarussian players full stop.Where is the stand from the players council in all of this btw? dont they get a voice?

Well I for one hope and pray he doesn't turn into a Wacky Nicky clone. Someone w/ immense talent, a short fuse, no discipline and no home training.
I just love the bolded above. Old-school expression that reminds me of my childhood.

I'm behind on the controversies surrounding both, but I'm sorry to learn that Rune is a brat with no home training.

Now that would be a magnanimous gesture if they had agreed to just withdraw voluntarily! I couldn't see it happening since even if you don't win, there's a boat-load of money to be shared/split! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :shushing-face::fearful-face::astonished-face:

I honestly just feel it’s not at the same level because of all the competition that will be missing. If Rafa decides to not show, it will definitely be a huge blow.

And where is that players union that Novak and Pospisil were trying to form? Who is there to protect those players banned through no actions of their own. Many have actually spoken out or worn signals against the war. At their own risk, and to that of their families.

Is that so called union still going? I have not heard a word from them, though Novak did come out and felt for the war going on in Ukraine.

Feel free to move on, but I'm not feeling yet to the bottom of it all, so I'm might yet like to discuss.

I couldn't have been more proud of Novak winning that match over 2 days after being "in the weeds"/woods for over a year and a half losing to the likes of Marco Cecchinato in Paris and M. Chung "down under!" He also had lost Queens tourney final to Cilic after having a match point! It was an amazing feat for him to "rise from the ashes" to capture his 4 Wimbledon; later going into USO as #6 seed to defeat Del Po in the final! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :face-with-tears-of-joy:
What has that got to do with Rune and homophobic outbursts?

No idea, but if it is, this would have been the moment to step up, not just speak as an individual. Which I do admire him for.

I am hearing the ATP will remove China events from 2022 calendar, will likely be couched as COVID- driven and not Peng Shuai like the WTA did in protest. That means no tennis in China in 3 years.

Bad news from Zverev. It will be interesting to see if he decides to skip the North American Hardcourt swing to fully heal and rehab his right ankle. One thing about torn ligaments is that they are "tricky" to handle meaning even if the injury is healed, the player might still feel uncomfortable while playing.

Either way, the second half of the season got A LOT more interesting with this injury. We already know about the banning of Russians/Belarusians at Wimbledon and Djokovic's unavailability due to his vaccination status. In addition of everything, we do not know whether or nor Nadal will decide to skip Wimbledon and/or how much he will play after Roland Garros due to his ongoing foot problem.

Here are the statuses for the Top 12 to 15 players after Roland Garros:

1. Medvedev (banned at Wimbledon; should be primed ready to defend his North American run from last year)
2. Zverev (major injury; we do not know how long he will be out)
3. Djokovic (Wimbledon is his last tournament until indoor fall season in Europe due to his vaccination status)
4. Nadal (unknown due to his ongoing foot problem; more than likely a limited schedule)
5. Ruud (healthy but his level on Grass and fast HCs are okay)
6. Alcaraz (healthy; we will see on how he plays on Grass)
7. Tsitsipas (healthy; but his mental status is still in "bad" place after last year's RG).
8. Rublev (banned at Wimbledon; but we all know his woes at big tournaments)
9. FAA (healthy and probably be the most dangerous player at Wimbledon outside of Djokovic and should be dangerous on fast HCs)
10. Berrettini (coming back from wrist surgery. It will be interesting to see his level)
11. Norrie (not enough big weapons)
12. Sinner (just a lot of physical problems currently)
13.Hurkacz (defending Wimbledon SF points; should be good for the fast HCs)
14. Fritz (another dangerous player at Wimbledon IF he shows his IW level)
15. Schwartzman (non-factor at Wimbledon; should be okay at summer HCs)

As you could see, most of the players are either injured, have mental or physical problems, or just do not have the game or level to compete on Grass and fast HCs.

Djokovic's schedule just got more limited with this announcement.

I have feeling he will more than likely play either at Japan Open or Vienna Open this upcoming fall. Those two countries do not require COVID-19 vaccination.
