Estoril Open update,
Schwartzman had to withdraw with fatique. He will be replaced by LL Fernando Verdasco.Verdasco will get a first rd bye and will play Cuevas in RD 2
Still a lot of rust in Dominic's game, which is to be expected, seeing he has been off the tour for nearly 11 months, he needs match play, his bhand let him down as well today., also his fhand was shaky at timesWell, Thiem is gone in straight sets! From what little I saw he couldn't break serve even with a few Love-30 games against Bonzi!
Some good news: Roger Federer has confirmed he will play Basel Open this October. We do not know yet whether or not this is will be first Federer's tournament back.
The way it should be. My wife is from Latvia and they had some pretty hardcore restrictions there at New Year when we went and now you don't need any vaccine, booster, negative test there or on the way back anymore. More countries need to wake up and realize it's not anything like they make it out to be.Wimbledon confirm that COVID vaccination will not be needed by players to compete this year. There will be no COVID restrictions this year.
Wimbledon 27th June to 10th July, marks the centenary of the Wimbledon Centre Court and its move to Church rd from Worple rd.The middle Sunday will no longer be a 'rest day', there will be play on that day from this year.
Here in Australia we have relaxed restrictions, as our Premier here in Sydney where I live said we have to get back to live a normal life,if people still feel the need to wear masks that is their choice, though on public transport,it is still necessary at the present time. The way it should be. LOL!Taking Sundays off was cute 20-30 years ago when it wasn't as competitive! It has always been ridiculous to skip that one day to appease the people of the neighborhood when most of them probably rent out their places to players making a mint!
I have to admit this was my first thought, not knowing if he'd confirmed anything else, as it seems rather early to announce Basel. I can't remember how long, but basically since forever that everyone around here has expected that's where he'll retire. But then Margaret says he is confirmed for Laver Cup. I don't know that he's officially said he won't make it to Wimbledon, has he? Anyway, hoping that he plays the N. Am HC season, including USO, then has a proper 2nd half of the season.I just hope it's not a case of saying bye to his fans at home. He could play at Basel, see he's not in contention anymore and call it a day at home. Would be a bit hasty with the new season around the corner and I'd like to think he'd try a bit harder after this comeback effort but the thought of the possibility of him calling it a day depending on how Basel goes is there all the same.
Nah .not a chance..he still feels he can win a slam if the other big two are not in the draw.I wonder if it will be his final tournament, whether he will retire at his home tournament? I know Roger has confirmed he will participate at the Laver Cup ( Rafa has also confirmed)
This is smart. Schwartzman could feature in the bigger tournaments going forward on clay, and he'd be foolish to play Estoril. (Even if he does mess up my draw a little bit. ¡Vamos, Fernando! )Estoril Open update,

I think the days of Roger winning a GS are long gone.,even if the other 2 are not in the draw. You

I hope you are right about this, but I'm not as optimistic about, if not their stance, then their commitment to doing something about it. I'd like to hear Roger and Rafa speak out against this. I guess the governing bodies do really have to get their ducks in a row (including with the lawyers, perhaps,) before they threaten a boycott. But if they were going to float the idea of taking away points, they should have saved it in joint action with a(n optional) boycott. IMO. One thing they should do, and I hope they are working on it, is create a petition and get as many players as possible to sign, and within that, some threat that players won't play. And again, I think the ATP and WTA should do this jointly. This is the way to help lesser players feel comfortable about speaking out. And to know they wouldn't be alone if they'd like to take a stand. But they can't sit on their hands for very much longer.Exactly. If they ever wanted to prove themselves, the time is now. In fairness, they're probably lining up their ducks as we speak. Most tennis players have been silent so far, maybe the ATP have advised them to wait and see?
I have no problem with the relaxing of local restrictions, but I do think that Wimbledon shouldn't abolish all restrictions at once, if they're not going to require a vaccine for players. Let's face it, tennis players ramble the world and are always potential "Typhoid Marys." If it weren't for one particularly prominent tennis player who refuses to vaccinate, and no one wanting to touch that third rail again, I'm sure Wimbledon would have no problem requiring that the players be vaccinated. It's just sensible. Here in Australia we have relaxed restrictions, as our Premier here in Sydney where I live said we have to get back to live a normal life,if people still feel the need to wear masks that is their choice, though on public transport,it is still necessary at the present time.
I think it was due to the fact that the Prime Minister Johnston had relaxed the restrictions, also he has relaxed restrictions for overseas travelers entering London.,Wimbledon followed suit. Also good news for me on a personal level I will be able to visit my daughter, whom I have not seen for 3 years.I have no problem with the relaxing of local restrictions, but I do think that Wimbledon shouldn't abolish all restrictions at once, if they're not going to require a vaccine for players. There is a lot of tribute to Kristijan from croatian social media bloggers. A guy had 4 childrenKristjan Schneider, former coach of Borna Coric and Ana Konjuh among others passed away at 41 years of age ( battle with cancer).Sad day for tennis.
