Just read that on Twitter....after all the operations and rehab he had to endure as well.I wish him well in his retirement,he was always a favorite player of mine,a gentle giant on the court.Delpo just has announced that this tournament will be his last one because he is going to retire, no more tennis, very sad
He never was my favorite but I recognize that he was a great layer, excellent service and forehandJust read that on Twitter....after all the operations and rehab he had to endure as well.I wish him well in his retirement,he was always a favorite player of mine,a gentle giant on the court.
Juan , we will always have Flushing Meadows...
Tommy Paul with a wild card for Delray Beach Tournament
Nick Kyrgios and Frances Tiafoe ( elbow injury) withdrew from the tournament.
Okay,it is one of Nick's fav tournaments, also I found it strange he wasnt in our DC team playing in Sydney in Match,he loves being in a team, though Thanasi was picked.Contributing factor was them making it thru the draws more than usual; Kyrgios in the doubles!

Quite frankly I think he is out of favor with Lleyton Hewitt,DC Captain, though Thanasi and Nick just won the doubles at the AO.It might be a while before they pick Nick! He's always on the verge of doing something that makes Int'l News! Maybe he can be an alternate!
This is sad to hear, though not shocking. Now I feel he must have had this in mind when deciding to come back for Buenos Aires, so he could retire in front of the home crowd. I can't think of another Major winner who has been so cursed by injury...maybe someone else can. I know you can't project a parallel universe, but it feels certain that the history of men's tennis would have been different if Delpo had been healthy throughout. It feels like he'd have won a few more Majors, thus depriving (most likely) the big 3, or at least spoiling some of them.Delpo just has announced that this tournament will be his last one because he is going to retire, no more tennis, very sad
Well, ahem, it was the USO final. But I will never buy that it was all about Roger letting him back in. Juan Martín took that match, too.The '09 Wimbl. Final win and that loss by Federer brought me back into watching tennis! I still can't believe Roger slipped & started allowing it!

Yeah, am gutted to read this. What a wonderful player he was to watch back in particular the 2009 U.S. Open, defeated Federer (final) and thrashed Nadal (sf). It seemed he would have a big future in the game at that point.
The 2 Aussies Darren Cahill and the late Peter McNamara, both fought recurring knee injuries and forced to retire because of those. They are the only other 2 I can think of.
He passed away 2019.Awwww, I hadn't heard that! "RIP Peter McNamara!"
He passed away 2019.
Come to think of it, another Peter, Peter Doohan who passed away 2017, also had his career cut short due to recurring injuries, either knee or back.
