It looks like Federer will use Laver Cup and Basel Open as way to get competitive matches. Then, after that, he will train very hard to make sure his knee is up to par so he can play in 2023.

I wait and see on that front, playing 2 tournaments, to get competitive matches? then train hard to make a comeback in 2023? at age 41,

I actually do not mind to see the return of Federer on the court. Yes, he might suck now at age 41 (almost), but I do not mind see him play an official tennis match before he officially retires from tennis.

Well I have no problems with him having a official tennis match before he retires, but I honestly think at age 41 planning to play in 2023, say with a reduced schedule,is 'pie in the sky' frankly.

Oh, I absolutely hope he gets to come back before he hangs 'em up. I'd like to see him make a good run, and see the Federer fans around here who are our good friends come back for it.

Probably my favorite part of the interview

To upgrade a grasscourt event to a Masters 1000 , much easier if at least 4 to 5 weeks between the French Open & Wimbledon than the current 3. Personally i don't think thats feasible.
I think it could be if you moved Indian Wells or Miami to the summer or early fall, and pushed up clay season.

Miami in the summer? That would be comfortable for everyone. You've already got 2 HC MS1000 in the summer, anyway. Maybe IW in the autumn, instead of Shanghai?
They’re going to have to do something about Shanghai, at the very least. They can’t leave a Masters 1000 in China which people can’t/won’t play.

I do not think Ellison will move IW in the Autumn because a lot of tennis fans go to IW in the Spring time to enjoy the warm weather. In addition, the players prefer the warm weather over cold weather because the conditions get really slow when it gets cold at the dessert.

Forgive my ignorance about CA weather and desert weather, but is it really that different in IW in March to October? Actually, I looked it up. March is very pleasant in IW. So is October and November. Ellison is another proposition. He's a big player in tennis, and he'd like IW to be a Major. I don't think he wants to be shifted around like a second-tier event. You could put Miami in the fall, but it's hurricane season until November. And both Miami and IW are co-events with the WTA. Everyone has been asking for years how we make a MS1000 on grass, and there is no answer. These are some of the reasons why. I do agree with @tented that we dump Shanghai. But it still doesn't give you a MS1000 on grass.

Jannik Sinner has received treatment on his knee, he was forced to retire at RG, he will leave for the UK tomorrow and will play Eastbourne, before heading to Wimbledon.
